Returning to what I love - My new 180 Rimless

Yeah, I looked at all those additives too at one point. Pretty smart though, $50 for this, $50 for that, by the time your done you have a cabinet full of 15 little bottles and your kids are all grown up. They gotta be making a killing.

Hey, if you wanna make money in this hobby, you keep your consumer base coming back for essentials. The developers of ZEO are Brilliant... "Shaking my stones" in not on my agenda! LMAO!

Have a great Weekend RC Family!

I got enough things to shake to keep me busy through the weekend. DOnt need no stinkin rocks to shake...I think. But those blue bottles are my fav. Ive always loved the blue wine bottles whether the wine tasted good or not, i still thought it was better just cause it was in a fancy blue bottle!

LOL.... I will prob try the Coral Snow soon. I'll definitely let you guys know what I think, once I get past the cool factor of the blue bottle... ;) I honestly hope that it's as good as they say...

Uh oh Jon so you gonna start shaking stones though in a small scale :D
Coral snow. Good luck with it and let us know if u observe anything changing.
Zeo guys are smart they and hav a great business strategy. If only things were simpler and not sooooo many tiny bottles I think more wouldv joined the Zeo bandwagon.

Vodka will get you there, I actually switch back and forth between vodka and vinegar every 6 to 8 months. I do this when I start getting cyano blooms.. I've found tht Cyano is least tolerant to vinegar, but it can adapt. When I see that happening, that's when I switch.. If you try this just rememeber to use 8 times the amount of vinegar as you would vodka since it is a much weaker carbon source.

Awesome idea. I like the concept.
Do you switch from vinegar to vodka both at a maintenance dose level.
Or do you start each time you switch at a "starting over" dosing level and ramp it up each time.

Equally awesome question!

I've always believed that Bio diversity is a good thing. After all, our corals are all from different regions and from different depths where conditions more than likely vary including the bacteria strains. I started my tank using Special Blend, then I switched over to MB7. When the Cyano started picking up, I switched back to SB and started dosing as if I were just starting the tank again and in about 5 weeks, the cyano was toast. So, I'm just looking to try something new at this point to see how the tank reacts.

It's worked out pretty well for me so far. I just recalculate based on the strength of carbon source and try to make the switch as close to the maintenance dose as possible.

Equally awesome question!

I never liked that part of sports! LOL, but definitely like the dynamic here!

Any thoughts on dosing Potassium(K) guys/gals? I've seen pretty curious about this, but I have never tried.. I was actually thinking about getting a test kit and and seeing where my levels are at.. There always seems to be pretty good feedback from those who dose it.

I so agree about the sports slaps, when I played football there was a rule, dont touch Chris' butt!

I too am curious about k and iodine. You should be the guinea pig. Ive never understood those that blindly dose lugols. Just seems silly to me but hey I remember the days of a cabinet full of suppliments that one couldnt live without. All of which were being delivered in abundance with waterchanges, but hey, we needed them right?!

+1 on adding K. Heard it brings out the blue in corals.
But preferrably do a test Jon then dose it.
One butt slap for ya for getting this idea!
One more if K works out for ya!!
:D

Thanks for that info, really good to know.
I've always wondered if vodka and vinegar were maybe fueling two totally different bacterias.
So the good bacteria that's using up all that unwanted NO3/PHO4 will easily make the switch from vodka to vinegar but the cyano won't..

LOL! Been thinking about it for a while... I was never opposed to adding small amount of lugols, especially with frequent water changes, but for this one, I am more curious about where my levels are at and what is suggested.. If it's within that range, no further action or though about it by me..

Same here with the Blues , But i will definitely test first.. If you saw my strapping 6 foot 41/2" exterior, I think you would really reconsider that next but slap RN ;) LOL...

You got it... We are all here trying to learn along the way.. I think the cyano can feed from and carbon source. However , from my experience, I have seen cyano blooms die back when switching to vinegar.. Just an observance. No hard scientific fact behind it...

All good things to know ;)

Got a new cell phone this week Samsung Galaxy S II. Just wanted to share a pic I took after my water change. Pretty cool camera on this thing and took an accurate pic of a T5 lit tank. I'm impressed.

Not bad.... :lol2: who am I kidding :) looks better than my tank pictures.

I have my eyes set on a nikkon D5100
Thats going to be my gift to my self this X-mas.
I've been a good boy this year ...... I think :D

That's a pretty impressive picture. Modern technology I tell ya....

I was shocked after taking one shot... with a shaky hand at that. I can't even get the color that accurate with my digital SLR. Thanks for checking out my thread. Your tank is inspirational.
