Returning to what I love - My new 180 Rimless

I just read 40 pages (ok, in 2 days ;) ) and WOWSERS! Absolutely stunning.

I found your build because you posted in a different thread, and included pictures of your tank with a clear mesh cover. I started reading, hoping to see how you did it, it appeared almost invisible. Would you mind sharing?

Great question Kev. I wish someone could answer this for me. I tried to get them to eat fresh broccoli, which is supposed to be high in vita B and has been noted to repair tissue from later line disease and other ailments. Unfortunately, the fish would not touch it! I would really like to see his fins regrow.

maybe try just cutting the "buds" off the tops of the broccoli and mixing it with some pellets. That might entice some feeding action.... Just a thought :)

You would be surprised just how fast you can fill up a big tank with coral and not have space to put anything without removing less disreables or re-aquascaping.

I heard that. But there's so many more I want. LOL

This is one Amazing setup!!
Great job, I love the dimensions of this tank and you corals have perfect color and extension.

Maybe I missed it, did you post a pic of your sump/ filtration?

Thank you and welcome to my thread :) It was pretty simple.. All you need is a screen door kit from Home Depot or Loews and some 1/4" birdnetting.. If you can't find the birdnetting at the hardware store (I Did) try a hunting store or even on the Net.. It shouldn't be hard to find. The kit comes with 90 degree ends to join the corners and the frame can be easily cut with a hack saw to give you the size you need.. The whole project should take you less than an hour. Oh... the birdnetting is so thin, it really doesn't matter if it is clear or black.. It won't block your light. If you want to paint the frame black, you can use Rustoleum powder finish spray paint for the job.

I will try it a gain and let you know how it works out Kev! Thanks for the idea :)

Dude, I know!!! LOL!!! It's a freakin' sickness!!! LOL

Jon, are you still using reef crystals? I love RC but every time I do a water change it raises my ALK more than I would like and with carbon dosing Im not loving it. All I can do is tiny water changes more often but Im getting way to lazy for that.

I stopped using RC a while ago due to the same issue. Currently, I'm using Coralife and like it.n it certainly doesn't have the same swing affect on ALK.

On another note, I'm having a phosphate issue that is causing some major issues in my tank right now. My ElOS PO4 kit was bad and the problem has probably been mounting for quite some time now. PO4 got up to .35. Initially once I caught the problem, I added GFO into the mix, but once I did that, within a few days I've noticed stn form the base of some of my colonies. So, last night I stopped the GFO. My tank is not looking too good right now. As a resukt I lost my leng sy cap, purple poylp cap, green digi and my tri color Valida started bleaching from the tips. There are more affected, but I will stop there.. It's not a good time for my coral right now, but I am determined to correct this. PO4 is now down to .15 via Hanna Photometer.. I've been working diligently to get things corrected through water changes and siphoning the substrate.

Wow Jon, sounds like things are tough right now. I know u will get the tank better real soon. This might be a dumb question, but why didn't u use the Hanna to begin with? I wish you luck my friend. Hope to things back to normal real soon. Keep us posted.

Bro, I didn't think I needed one. I trusted my ELOS kit(bad move).. I then had a friend of mine test with his Hanna because the changes in the tank didn't correlate with the readings that I was getting from the Elos and finally got n accurate and very high reading. My Elos wasn't regestering any PO4 at all! I was HOTTT! to put it nicely. I ordered my Hanna the very next day.

Thanks guys!

That is my next tank purchase Hanna phosphorus.

My tank isn't doing so hot but I have been working really hard on it hoping to turn it around. I let it get a little out of control after losing my prized wrasses.

Back on it now though.

Definitely worth it.. I understand the phosphorous tester is even more accurate. Good luck to you!

Sorry to hear the troubles Jon, hope things get better for you soon.

Thanks Bro! It will turn around...

Awesome tank! Haven't read entire thread do my apology if this has been asked. I want a CB butterfly to rid my aptasia anemones. I have hesitated because I have acans and and would like to get some clams. It appears yours has not been a problem in that regard. I know what one does will not necessarily apply to all CB behavior. Any insights or observations you might share with me in this decision to buy a CB butterfly?

Thank you crediss. I have never had a CBB to bother clams or acans. Zoos on the other hand, eventually become a meal when the aptasias are gone. It really comes down to the individual animal. Try choosing a healthy looking one that's eating frozen food and go from there. Good luck to you!

hey Jon,

do you know that i never be able to get Po4 really down with only dosing vinegar..and i dose 120ml a day. Lowest Po4 i can get is 0,06 ,not too bad. but to get better colors i target 0.02-0,04 on hanna
how much do you dose now?

I think .04 is great! Right not I am up to about 160ml. I'm thinking about switching back to vodka for a while.
