Reverse Carlson Surge Device

Hi all, Did a few searches on Google.. I couldnt find much reviews on this device... I know how the device works but wondering if it really will create the surge effect?
Planning to use this on my 3ft x 3ft x 2ft, which is a 135 gallon, will be making a partition to be the device... But roughly need to know the volume of the device for it to be effective...

Appreciate some feedback on actual working device...

I' ve made a few they work nice, but no longer in use.
make sure not to attach them to he side of your tank, but to the wall or the stand, because of the large forces when in action.
vent it to the outside of your house.
 
Hi, So a around 6-12 gallon device would work...
Sorry but do you have a image of how the real device would look like? All I found are drawings..
So meaning I can only construct it using 4-6 inch pipe? I am thinking whether if it can be done using acrylic tank?

With your RCSD vented to the exterior, did you lose very much saltwater along with the exhaust air?

How come you no longer use the RCSD?

on page 3 are some pics my username is hvdp
the big one is 24 cm diameter tube
on top of the ones shown I had a onother sealed container with a 32 mm venting outside, I don' t really know if i lost a lot of saltwater.
I had one on my Mediterranean tank for over a year, but as it was in the living room it worked from the morning till about 6 pm. (because of the noise)
I no longer use them (for the time being) as they use a lot of space.
the RCSD was attached to the wall behind the tank.
 
Hi, Cant really see the images without logging in... I have registered and waiting for the email...

24cm seems quite big, I am thinking of using some Rubbermaid containers...
I have quite some space behind my tank and below my tank to place the containers...
 
I can't even register. Since I can't read what appears to be German, not sure what the problem is. I selected English, but it did not help. My apologies.

Is their any way you could post the pics here? I am also considering using a RCSD and your experience would be greatly appreciated.
 
I am pretty sure H20eng built a RCSD externally to alleviate some of the forces , give him a prod.
 
Here is the pic, the cd is for size comparison.
In the large one the tubing is internal.
I didn' t know you' d need to log in to read on the forum.
BTW signing in is worth it and then check 'aquarium dagboeken' it features some nice tanks.

indeed the smaller one was a test.

is your tank going to be all glass?
you could make a triangular one in the back corner of your tank.
be sure to leave some 10 cm clearance at the bottom.
you can even use the water pushed out to feed a refugium.
 
Yup, It will be a whole glass tank at the moment... Might change to acrylic if I can find a more affordable acrylic tank maker...

So I can just make a triangle partition to hold the device or to act as a device?
The glass can take the pressure?
I will use pump the water back in to the tank instead of feeding to refugium...

I would not partition in glass, but instead make one out of pvc-plates, acrylic or plywood-polyester.
Here is a pic of the smaller one, the big one has the tube is placed on the inside.
the water rushes in on the bottom of the device.
also make the u-tube as large as possible, the faster the air is able to get out, the faster the water rushes in and the stronger the surge.

Hi Huig, so I can make it using acrylic, I can make one behind my tank beside the overflow...
Okay, will remember to make the u-tube as large as possible...
 
I' d make it internal because outside requires a lot of additional tubing.
I think Piercho had an external RCSD but he no longer has it (or a tank) if I remember correctly.
