High all, I just got a RO/DI unit and had a few questions.

I was thinking of hooking this up with a splitter to my aquarium water reservoir so I can use it when I need it and also to my refrigerator water supply and running it all day.

I know that waste water is created at a 4:1 ratio, what I am not able to find answers about is will waste water be created when the refrigerator water is not putting out water?

I don't want to waste a whole bunch of water.

Thanks!

Most fridge manufacturers recommend not to, read your manual.
Something about the pressure not high enough, I think.

You'd want a surge/pressure tank. Also depending on your water pressure and quality, it may have more waste.

Running short cycles of the RO membrane will make it wear out very quickly. Your frig should have a filter in it that is "good enough" for consumption.

I got my ro/di from www.buckeyehydro.com. The put it together for me so that it tees off before the ro/di stages and goes to the frig which is located on the main floor, about a 40' run from the ro/di unit. plenty of pressure that way, and no waste water. Although you can drink ro water, even ro/di if you want, running it through the sediment and carbon blocks is really more then enough for drinking use.

yep.. +1
unless you are a super freak (like me) and will ONLY drink RO water just sediment/carbon are sufficient.

when the OP hooks it up and sees the slow flow he will see the need to do as you suggested or get a pressure tank.

and to the OP.. no the waste water won't continually run assuming you have it plumbed properly as the asov valve will stop the waste flow when not making water..

You sir (BillDog) are a friggin' genius, I never thought of that, thank you!

Why Yes - Yes I am! :lolspin::D:lolspin:

But in this case I must give 100% of the credit to Russ at BuckeyeHydro. I had questions about getting the proper unit to do what I wanted it to do. I emailed them at about 10am on a Saturday morning, expecting a return email sometime the next week. Russ called me on the phone about noon that same day and spent the next hour or so with me answering all my questions and saving me about $200 in the process. They custom built my system and had it at my door that Tuesday. I will not even look at another vendor for my ro/di needs, and recommend them to everyone who asks.
