Review My Fish List Please!!

I'm to the point where I'm ready to add some of my first fish...

I've already got some clowns lined up from a fellow member. Along with the clowns I was hoping to have the following:

Powder Blue Tang
8 to 10 Black Bar Chromis
A Goby of some kind, mandarin likely - havent made up my mind yet.

and possibly a Flame angel or some other dwarf angel down the road if you guys think there is room.

Mind You these additions wont be all at once Just checking to see weather the selections are compatible with eachother and my tank. I've got my heart pretty well set on the Chromis so please please dont try to change my mind.

reason I asked is that the flame angel may nip at corals, since they are prone to do that in tanks. Some dont some do.... Its just depends on which one you get.

and a mandarin in a new tank is gonna be hard, most die because they are put into new tanks.

you might have to use a jar to put some food in the tank for it to get. or in a low flow area.

I got a scooter dragonnet and its being a pain in the rear on eating...

I've had a mandarin before in my old 90g - So dont worry I am aware of their needs - I wouldnt be purchasing one right off the bat although My pod population is pretty hefty already. I've seen monster amphipods the size of small shrimp cruising the tank on a regular basis... crazy looking little bugs!

I just wanted to make sure the fish on my "get" list are all going to be compatible.

Thanks... I might pass on the angel, I've had bad luck with angels before. So unless I find one that is proven not to nip maybe its better to be safe then sorry.

yeah i was gonna get a flame and saw that they have that bad habit, so i ended up not getting one.....

Is there anyway I could get some pods for my tank, see if my scooter will take to them for yummy in his tummy...

Very hard to find a healthy PBT and they are not easy to keep.
I had one before. He ate like a pig but died after 2-3 months because of ich. Lucky no other fish in my tank effected.

I like your plan, sounds like a good assortment that will be very interesting to look at. As Nu2SW said pigmy angels are somewhat hit or miss. They are most likely to bother clams, some soft corals like Xenia, and less noxious LPS's. I don't think they bother SPS's (at least IME or that I have heard about). I have a coral beauty and a Potters and they don't bother any of my corals or clams. I also have a Vermiculated/Singapore Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus) which only bothered Xenia (ate most of them). Really cool fish BTW, has a body shape and coloration type more like one of the common butterflies and mine eats like a pig, just a little shy. In general I think you should evaluate your coral population and then do the research on the likely angel/ pigmy angel that will not give you problems. In general the pocket guide ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œMarine Fishes: 500+ Essential-To-Know Aquarium Speciesââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ by Ronald L. Shimek is usually my starting place for evaluating fish/fish and coral/fish compatibility. So far it has been very helpful and accurate for me.

BTW you might want to consider the PBT as your last fish. Looks like the most agressive fish in your list.

I'd concur w/ Nu2SW. I'd wait on the Mandarin until the tank is real mature with tons of pods or it may slowly starve to death. Good luck!

Another BTW, I assumed that the clowns were NOT maroon clowns. In my somewhat limited experience as a maroon clown gets large (up to 6 inches) it will assume the entire tank is hers. In a mixed reef tank it would harass, probably to death, any of the other tank members you mentioned. Maroons are best for a species tank (one male and one female).

nope not maroons, they are Ocellaris.

if you get expensive corals and don't mind risking them all, get a centrogype angel... otherwise don't do it.

You can have them for months, and then one day they'll accidentally nip a nice expensive acropora, and go to town. impossible to catch them too unless you dismantel your entire rockwork. not worth it for me at least.

If you want a dwarf angel in a reef go with the coral beauty. mine dosent touch anything but my ebli had to get moved to the fish only tank little bugger was a sps aholic

Id skip the Mandrin, as said above.

8-10 chromis would be cool to have schooling, but I found that with just the three blue/green ones I have I would have had something a little more unique. You may find the same eventually.

Angels are hit and miss, I have a coral beauty that was in love with my clam, but the affair recently ended. Other that that, a model algae eater.

In my fish selection, because they are far more limited in a reef, I tried to find 1) each had different shapes 2) color differences, no two the same 3) and appeal, ones that I thought were cool. For instance the chevron tang and sunburst anthias.

Most of my fish selection comes from online, most will have descriptions of the fish and pros and cons. Say marine depot live. This will guage the price and availibility of the fish. By comparing a couple of sites and asking on RC, you should find the right ones for you.
