do these guys tolerate lighting or do they prefer shade. i have some uner 3x 400 watt halides, but they are at the bottom of the tank. should i make sure they are shaded or should they be alright?
thanks

The bottom of the tank should be fine. I have some under a 400w in a 54g corner with no problems. (It is a 20k rated bulb, though)

If you begin to see them shrink or bleach you can move them into a shady area. I would just keep an eye on them for now. Anything negative that happens won't just happen overnight, it will be something you will begin to notice and have plenty of time to correct.

Good luck

thanks jared. they have split in two and are losing their color, i just got home from work and moved them to a shadier place. crossing my fingers. they were in bad shape when i purchased them. so they are doing better then they were but not as good as they should. we will see i guess
thanks again

It sounds like you are doing the right thing. The new location will allow the mushroom to regain some of the color it lost from the high intensity lighting and should cause an increase in expansion as well.

The next time you have some spare time, drop a piece of mysis or a shrimp pellet on the mushroom and see if it will produce a feeding response.

Good luck
