Rhomboid Fairy Wrasse, Male or Female?

I ordered a female Rhomboid wrasse from my LFS last week to go along with my Super male, problem is they mixed in the supposed female with the smaller males that they had already had. So 45 minutes of investigating, I finally made the decision on this one. However I am not 100% convinced I picked the female (if they even had a female to begin with).

Here are a couple of pictures.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Looks like a young male to me. The diamond shaped tail is a giveaway. The tail on my female rhomboid is more rounded.

Also the females have more of a pink hue to them in the body. Here is a pic of an old female rhomboid that was part of a pair I used to have.

Thank you so much for the post and the PICTURE!

I had a feeling that this was a young male, hence why I refused to put it into my display until I could get some answers, in that case, they definitely never got any females ...

You're welcome. As Psionicdragon pointed out you may get away with it if your other male is a lot more dominant, and the tank is large enough. Personally I don't think I would risk it.

I know PIA had female rhomboids earlier this past week, but I am not sure if they still have any available. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. The rhomboids are great fish.

Yup its a young male I never have issue with them fighting but swim bladder that's another issue

I believe it. The super male is a pretty docile fish for the most part. He swims past the container as if the fish isn't there. However my small male Flame Wrasse wants to destroy the fish. Never seen him act like this before. He doesn't bother anyone in the tank 'usually.'

I will check out PIA. I am in no rush as I really want to get at least 1 female Rhomboid for the tank. It is by far one of my favorite wrasses!

Absolutely agree with the young male ID.

As stated, it might revert back to female in the presence of a larger, dominant male, but there obviously is risk involved with attempting this.

If you decide to keep it

Put the submale in the sump for few days then catch the male from your DT
Then put them together in the sump to see if there is aggression.
It's easy to catch it there if something happen
And if they are ok put them on the DT together
