did anyone get to check out the 2 blue ribon eels they had at beverly's the other day? i went by today to contimplate buying one (heard they were hard to get to eat) and they were both gone :( they were real nice looking? did any of you pick em up?

Everything I've read about them is that they're difficult to keep and usually don't survive long in captivity.

actually, theyll do perfectly fine if you can find one thats eating already, and feed it regularly.

i had a white ribbon eel for a good long time, very cool animal. i bought mine already eating frozen silversides, which is awesome. hand fed mine.

White Ribbon Eel is very different from the Blue Ribbon Eel. Despite the similar common names, they are not closely related. White Ribbon Eels can be very hardy. I recall reading an article about the WRE. The author stated that he found it in a live rock holding tank where it had been for a few months before anyone noticed it.

Regardless, I wouldn't put one in a 30g, if that's what you're thinking, Chef.

And bawla, you said you "had" one. What happened, did it go for a stroll?

no im looking into getting a bigger tank.. he would just be in my 30 for a temp setup. not gonna get one now i just thought it was kinda cool

Blue and Black Ribbon eels are very hard to get eating. The best way to get them to eat is is a mellow tank with a lot of mollies acclimated to saltwater or if you can afford it, Fire fish, dart fish and bar gobies since that is what they eat in the wild. They like to have their entire Body hidden except for their head and usually do better in groups. Now once you get all that...if you get one to eat...you are really lucky! I have only seen the black ones eat when there are several of them in a tank, but never seen the Blues even look at food.

White Ribbons are a great alternative. They are not true ribbon eels but look like them! They are in the snake Moray family.
