Ricky's 120 Stony Coral Garden

I really enjoyed following your tank blog. Thanks so much for posting all the pics! I don't know how you didn't have a crazy hair algae explosion with those kind of nitrates! I can't do that or it'll be like swamp thing in there. amazing corals, something to aspire to for sure. and great camera skills to boot.
thanks

Quick Update

Quick Update

The tank may look like it did not grow much over the past few months because I fragged a lot of coral this summer. I will let the corals heal and grow out more before I take more pictures.

My favorite coral, it grew a lot from the last picture, once it colors back up it will look hot! (pink with yellow tips)

Ricky's Poison Ivy

Hi Ricky, how are the corals? Did the nitrates reduce and has your Poisin Ivy coloured up again?

Thanks to you Sahin I have added a lot of threads to my subscription list. :D

Need updates, beautiful tank!

Mark, I am so obsessed with this hobby...I am subscribed to all the nicest coral tank threads...not just on RC but other forums too. Crazy...

Surprisingly the color did come back. I increased my calcium to 450 ppm but my nitrates are still around 25.

Thats really good. I love that piece.

Getting your parameters inline was the only thing that pulled the colour back or did you do anything else?

Look forward to the update when it comes.

Indeed! Forgot about this thread..
Looking forward to an update..
In the meantime, I'm going back to look this thread over again!

I re-read threads sometimes as well. :) Threads like this one are like reading your favorite book again. :lol2:

Can't wait.

I also have a Nikon with a similar set of lenses. What software, if any, do you use to clean up the shots?

I recall him stating he had a 90mm Tamron macro lens which is fantastic... I have one as well on my D7000 and it takes some amazing pictures :)

Happy 2015, since my last post I have changed out my UVL Super Actinic T5's for ATI Pure Actinic 03. I borrowed a PAR meter and surprisingly the level was higher on the ATI bulb despite The Grim Reefer's findings in 2007. I have also taken the ATI Power Cone 250 I-Series offline because it does not pull out much waste and the frag tank I have running does not utilize a protein skimmer and the nutrient levels are 0 ppm even with daily feedings and fish in the tank. It is very nice not hearing the protein skimmer running anymore. I will keep everyone updated with my results.

Ricky is there any visual difference between the UVL and ATI Actinics? What about compared to VHO actinics?

Will be following the no skimmer action. :)
