OMG! All these beautiful rimless tanks! read the entire thread all in one sitting. haha!

You guys inspired me to redesign the tank i was planning! (custom 55" x 28" x 24")

If i want to have high flow and use a Tunze wavebox, how much height do I need between water surface and rim so there wont be any spills??

Thanks!!

that depends on how much wave you want. I have about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch wave. my water is is about 2 1/4 inches from the top without the wave.

Hi Guys ...

deester-are those both mp40's?talk about some flow!looks great-drew

Heya Drew,

Yeah mate, running 2 x MP40W's ... Left one runs on constant at about 50-60% ... Right one runs on constant at about 30-40%. Plenty of flow and plenty of light with the 8x39w ATI, so far everything seems to love it.

Thanks for the kind words.

Dee.

Dee:

Is that a monticulosa or a Humilus right up front on the right., have a better picture of it?, or better still, can you send it to me :lol2:

Hi Wayner2,

I am by no means well versed in SPS ID's :o But if I had to take a stab I would say it's a Monticulosa. Here's some better pics ... Polyps are a lot greener in real life, also has very nice purple tips.

I have to agree with you Dee, very nice piece, I'm not sure if you just got the Monticulosa, if you did, good spot until it acclimates to the lighting, everything I read on this SPS says it requires strong lighting and really good flow.

Good Luck!

Dee,

Your Rimless reef is looking superb! I'd love to know what it's like living so close to the Great Barrier Reef when it comes to obtaining corals.. Prices etc.. I don't want to hijack this thread... Can you send me a PM and let me know a little about your experience there... Thanks...

Deester, sweet looking tank man. what bulb combo are you running?
Hi Mate ...

Thanks for the kind words ... Using a combo of 4 x ATI BluePlus 3 x ATI AquaBlueSpecial and 1 x KZ Fuji staggered.

One of the ATI Blue Plus's and the Fuji are used for the Dawn/Dusk lighting, which the pics where taken under.

Hi Mate ...

I have had the Monticulosa for around 6-8 weeks now and as you said they require high light and flow. To date it seems very happy where it's placed, the Vortech on the back glass above it pretty much well takes care of the flow and the lighting is pretty intense as the tank is only 16inches deep. So far it is responding nicely to where it's placed, but can be easily moved to a more suitable spot if it does not thrive where it is now.

Thanks for the kind words ... Once I am home from work I'll happily PM in regards to your question.
