Re: Rimless Aquarium Club

Rick, I would go with the 250w. It will allow more flexibility as to where you can keep your SPS and/or clams (low or high).

Researching into going rimless. Before I do, I want to make sure I will be happy with the fish list. As I do not want to place any protective screening. Can anyone refer me to a fish list of non jumpers/safe fish to place in a rimless?

Love what you did with the Tek light...digging that lamp holder.
f.

not sure if you meant mine or not. I made mine, electrical conduit..bent then painted. It cost me 8 dollars for the pipe, paint and the 2 conduit brackets to attach to my stand. I love the look.

Heres mine.

Thanks! Yeah, since its not really close to the sofa i figured i'd build it kind of high so i dont have to crouch down too much when viewing it.

I'm not sure if there is a list specifically for non-jumping fish, I haven't seen one but if you come across one please do share it!

I just ordered my 57g Oceanic Illuminata rimless, should be here next week!

The best I have been able to find is liveaquaria.com warns if a particular fish is likely to jump and should have a tight fitting lid.

in reality, any fish that is spooked for whatever reason will jump......

i had a pr of clowns that apparantly there wasn't enough of a difference in size between them to create a natural dominant/submissive, so they were constantly "bullying" each other & one would jump into the rear filtration chamber of my biocube. had it been an open-top rimless, it would've been a carpet-surfer

Can someone recommend a store that sells rimless tanks and will ship. i am looking for about 90-120 gallons
Although some of the major tank mfg's are finally hopping on the bandwagon, most of the rimless aquariums you see were custom made. In your situation, there is a company called Miracles in Glass that will build + ship anything you'd like. I have personally dealt with them as well as several locals, the quality of the tanks they make are beautiful and very high quality. Hope this helps! :)

I agree Kudos to Miracles. I am currently shopping around for a new tank. Comparing different custom manufacturers and comparing what you can get for your money compared to THE BIG BOYS like Oceanic. You are obviously going to pay alot more for a custom tank, even more if its going to be rimless. And then there is the stand that you pay out of your *** for. Granted you can save alot by building your own stand but it may void your tank warranty. A local custom builder provides a 3 year warranty on their tank if they build the stand, only a one year warranty, if a licensed contractor does it for you and NO warranty if you build the stand.

Back to Miracles. I was qouted $2525 for a 30x30x24 rimless with front starphire and stand shipped from Canada to Pa.
Coast to Coast in NJ qouted $3740 for same tank and stand with pick up at site.

Now I am not bashing Coast to Coast, I may very well purchase from them but from what I have researched so far Miracles seems to be a very reasonable and reputable company.
