Rimless Aquarium Club

Oops, I forgot to mention the most important thing. I just placed an order for a 4x2x2 rimless, and very likely another rimless in the near future. :D

i didnt see this when i ordered, my stand is built with an open bottom the tank rest on the outer edges? will this be a problem.

i do have the black plastic frame underneath the edges are covered with a plastic piece in the center running the width of the tank.

Boxer, your tank was built by Oceanic, correct? If they put the plastic trim on the bottom then it is built just like their standard tanks, and it's fine to just have it supported around the edge.

i want to made my own rimless tank, but i need help. i want a 51" x 24" x 24" glass tank, quick question about the thick... 3/8" ..? 1/2"...? 5/8"...? 3/4"...? what do i have to use?... and finally, what kind of silicone, i love black silicone, can i use it??

The absolute minimum seems to be 1/2".

As to the silicone, the question should not be what colour, but what kind of silicone. If you have to ask this, you probably shouldn't be building a glass tank, especially a rimless. The DIY forum would answer your question better

Mine now that I finally received my last piece of major equipment .... my Sunpower.

What is that tubing on the bottom of the overflow?

Hi Matt & Pam... sorry for my delay. The piping is connected to a small pump in the overflow and is to help prevent debris building up behind the rock work.

See my thread for more details and discussion on it.
Tks

That is just their name for that tank.
I'm pretty sure it's not actually 95 gallons - the external dimensions yield 79.8 gallons, and that's without tanking into account glass thickness.

It is truly amazing the difference in price here in Taiwan. Rimless are very common with tanks 75cm in lenght and less and a 60X45X45 rimless tank with 10mm glass is about 60dollars CDN. I have a rimless tank with 12mm glass ordered 48cmX24x24cm high (4feetX2FeetX2feet) and the cost is just 210 CDN. Delivered to my door and setup.

I love being here in asia. I am sure I will not be able to afford the tanks I have now if I move back home to Canada.

I agree Kudos to Miracles. I am currently shopping around for a new tank. Comparing different custom manufacturers and comparing what you can get for your money compared to THE BIG BOYS like Oceanic. You are obviously going to pay alot more for a custom tank, even more if its going to be rimless. And then there is the stand that you pay out of your *** for. Granted you can save alot by building your own stand but it may void your tank warranty. A local custom builder provides a 3 year warranty on their tank if they build the stand, only a one year warranty, if a licensed contractor does it for you and NO warranty if you build the stand.

Back to Miracles. I was qouted $2525 for a 30x30x24 rimless with front starphire and stand shipped from Canada to Pa.
Coast to Coast in NJ qouted $3740 for same tank and stand with pick up at site.

Now I am not bashing Coast to Coast, I may very well purchase from them but from what I have researched so far Miracles seems to be a very reasonable and reputable company.

Hey Merfin,

The tank and stand were built by Eddie @ Cadlights. He's better known for his AIO line (I started with the Cadlights 39g Sig Tank so that's how I met him) but does fantastic custom work too as well as running a reef store in Brooklyn.

Nice 'scape and looking forward seeing more pics!

Thanks !!! Lovin the BRS Pukani rock. Makes 'scapin a very easy task.
