Altikesimoglu- your tank is amazing. I spy a Tunze Aqua Wind. What is your opinion of it?

jbanks--Your tank is awesome as well. Also Altikesimoglu stated in his post earlier that the livestock was transferred from his 250g.

I actually have some fish in there now.. However, I had two clowns of different species to go carpet surfing. One was a female to a mated pair of True Percs.. The other was a Sebae. So, I decided on go with a third type (Tomatoes). I will be pulling out the Sebae and the perc probably this weekend before the Tomatoes go nuts on them. They're co-existing happily for right now.. As for coral, I only have one frogspawn. I will be attempting to put some SPS by this coming weekend. I have been going slow so that I can watch my levels closely.. Carbon dosing is very new me.... I should have some updated pictures a little later on my build thread...

This question has prob been asked 100 times, but I cant seem to find it. I live in SC and am looking for somewhere to buy a rimless tank. Any suggestion- something along the lines of 36x24x24

jbanks and kc350twin, thank you.

Yes the corals are not new, they are from my old setup. The old aquarium was simply too big for me (250 gl). The coloration and growth is better now under PM.
And yes, it is a Tunze Aquawind. It does not cool the aquarium as a chiller but keeps the temperature steady when the lights are on. Other than that, it has a very sleek design and does not occupy much space. I don't run the chiller as a side note.

jbanks, I am following your thread in silence, your setup and rock design is wonderful!

Thanks for the kind comments! I've been taking my time with it so that hopefully I get off to a good start once my SPS start going in.. I should have some cool updates on my build thread in the next couple of weeks.

Standard glass vs Starfire

Standard glass vs Starfire

I'm seriously considering joining the rimless club. Before I take the plunge I have to decide whether to go with the standard plate glass or with "Starfire" glass.

The configuration I'm considering is 40"w x 28"d x 24"h. It will require 3/4" glass.

For those of you with rimless tanks made with 3/4" standard plate glass, I wish to ask one question. Are you pleased with the standard glass .. or do you find the thickness of the glass makes it appear too "green"?

Thanks in advance ...

With 3/4" I would personally do starphire. It will look green at that thickness. I have seen a few 3/4" tanks and the starphire ones are a lot clearer.

Here is a comparison of 3/4 glass. Its is just too green for my personal taste. I have 1/2" did starphire and it looks like no glass at all. My overflow is plate glass and I could really see the difference.

That picture is only a comparison of starphire (lower iron glass and regular glass) my new GC rimless I got last weekend has a starphire front. TBH there isnt much differance unless its against a white wall. Once there is water in it and light shining through you wont hardly notice the differance.
BTW mine is 3/4" glass and only the edges look green the rest is just fine.

It comes down to Budget. I agree that most people cannot tell the difference when filled (1/4 and 1/2 is harder to tell), but to a trained eye it stands out like a sore thumb. When I have to look at it every day, I personally go with starphire but to each their own. If you can afford the starphire and want some more clarity then go for it, it your budget is tight, go plate with the front SP.

It's my understanding that Starphire scratches easier than standard glass. For those of you that have it, is that the case?

It will scratch easier, but both will scratch. Just do not get any sand in between the mag and it will be scratch free, lol..
