My custom 29 rimless

My custom 29 rimless

My customized 29 gallon rimless. This was your average 29 gallon that was stripped down completly. Basically it was turned on its front, what was the back of the tank was removed and cut down to size and glued on what was once the open top, but is now the front. Everything was also resealed in the process. Bottom and back are painted black. I custom made the stand myself (see the last picture) and left room for when i do eventually run a sump, prob do a little 10 gallon. Right now the HOB filter and my skimmer are doing the trick just fine!

Light swings away for access... simple and cheap all for about $20:dance:

Well...this is going to be my rimless...a custom 36" x 30" x 20" 90 gallon...starfire front and sides. Bought it from another local member here in Minneapolis.

I wanted to have water in it by now, but I had to decide on what I wanted to do with lighting. I currently have a 60 gallon cube with an AI Sol Blue...and after owning it, I'm not fond of the color...AT ALL. So, I'm going to get an ATI power module...movin on back to T5's. Should be getting that probably in the next week.

Looks great, I like the stand. It's nice and shiny, looks like it's acrylic or lacquer. I like how nothing sticks out, very clean lines. I love the dimensions of the tank as well. I would try to find some black pvc for the return, but that's just nit-picking. It looks like it will be excellent and I would love to see some pics when it's fully stocked.

I found a 36 X 24 X20 rimless Leemar tank for 500 with stand Does that sound like a good price. Looking to down size form my 120 tank. Thanks in advance

You know...I agree about the black return. I can still do it but it would take some clever work for me to cut the PVC without taking it out...the way I plumbed doesn't allow me to take everything out without cutting down below the bulkhead and replacing everything including a cepex ball valve and a check valve.

Pretty simple. Picked up some square tube at home depot. Cut to length. I used right angle brackets and sheet metal screws to hold the 90 degree angle.

Attached the light directly to the tube via the standard screws.

I then attached a few hinges to the base, and in turn attached to a 2X4, which went into the hack of the stand.

Specific questions? just ask I can add pics

Hello all. Many beautiful rimless tanks on this thread so I want to ask "the experts". What are your thoughts on a 40 gal rimless tank (glass cages 36 x 18 x 12) built with 4 of the size 3/4" returns drilled into the floor about 1-2" from the back wall and spaced out evenly across the width of the tank? I was thinking that this would minimize the visible plumbing. Can you think of any drawbacks? Good idea? Not so good idea?

I think I finally have a tank worthy of posting. I had a cheap nondrilled tank made by AGA for a while and wanted a rimless after reading through this thread. I moved from CA to Singapore so I figured it was a good time for a new tank since I was starting over. I found a local builder, Aquarium Artist, and had a 4 x 2 x 2 foot tank built with three sides low iron glass (they don't call it starphire over here), with an internal overflow and black silicone. Really pleased with how it turned out.

Finally completed my stand for a 100g cadlights rimless and am about ready to make the swap from my current tank. I plan on using padding between the tank and plywood. What is everyone using as padding? I was planning on buying this:

http://www.amazon.com/We-Sell-Mats-Anti-Fatigue-Interlocking/dp/B001EJI6CK

I know people also use yoga mats but these are a little thicker and it would make me feel a little more comfortable.

I use one of those under my acrylic cube and it worked out great. I plan to use it for my rimless glass tank i'm building as well. You can get them at Harbor Freight also, but that is a really good buy. At Harbor Freight you only get 3 or 4 in a pack for like 15 bucks.

Yea I actually saw them there, they also have a one piece I believe 4'x4 that I think I'm going to use.

I used a piece of 1/2" thick neoprene under my 100gal rimless, was 12 bucks for a 24X48 inch piece delivered from the foam factory website

I used an excersize equipment floor mat from amazon both under the stand and between the stand and tank. The material is pretty tough but fairly easy to cut to size.
