I woke up this morning and couldnt find the female of our percula pair.

sadly, i found her behind the fish tank.

covered in cat hair.

our little kitten always plays, but i dont REALLY think she could have done it, especially cuz the fishy was still okay, no holes or anything.

we have a lot of cats, to the hair could be because of her trying to get back to the tank...

the tank level was about an inch and a half low, so it doesnt really SEEM like she could have jumped ship.


and now we're contemplating finding a new mate for our little percula, he really does deserve it.

any ideas?

Replace it and put some glass, eggcrate over the top of your tank to prevent any others from going over board! When trying to find another clown depending how long you have had it get a smaller clown then the one you have!! They should pair up fine!

thanks we ended up buying a newer bigger tank witha top, and were gonna get a new fishy tomorrow ))

It's quite possible the fish just jumped and got into some hair, but you'd be astonished at how well some cats can catch fish...

A few years back I had an open-topped planted FW tank, with a 1" heavy metal grating (think "section of small animal cage") that was 15" above the water line.

The tank was 30" deep, and (primarily bottom-dwelling) cory cats kept going missing.

I couldn't figure it out until one day I saw the cat laying on top of the tank, peering down intently -- he had one front leg shoved through the grating as far as it would go (about 1/4" into the top of the water) and was patiently stalking and snagging the catfish as they'd occasionally come to the top for a bit of air.

Since then I've never trusted a cat around an open-topped tank...

I feel your pain, I woke up this morning and went to look at my Beatufil Picasso clowns. I could only find one and not the other. I looked on the floor behind the setup and found a recently dead picasso. I even tried chest compressions on her but no luck, she was dead. Now I only have one and luckily its the better looking of the two. Now I have to see if I can track down another one and fork over the money for one. Oh by the way I had eggcrate on the top but she managed to jump just right and make it through the opening.
