Rip

The problem is that when you get wild fish they can have diseases and that can cause them to die. I test my water every day and so far my 75 has had good levels for over 3 weeks.

I've killed:
2 jawfish
3 damsels
2 clowns
2 cleaner shrimp
1 emerald crab
most corals I've tried
>10 astrea snails

The worst was the last jawfish from my 20g. I did it. I was rearranging the rock and he darted under one of them. I didn't find him until the next day when he was half floating. I tried to catch him to qt him or something and he darted back halfway under a rock. He was very small, and 3 large crabs got a good hold of him. It was over in just a few seconds.

Andrew that is the case with any fish. Putting them in QT will not magically make the disease go away. I have never put a fish in QT and so far I have been lucky. Putting that butterfly in QT would not have saved it.

Well no fish lives for ever especially in captivity. There is really no way to tell exactly why unless you send them off to be analyzed by a specialist. When I have one die it just gives me an excuse to spend more time on RC doing research and browsing the pet stores.:)

Oh Dwayne
Just to let you know, I grieved for your lose.

As a rule I've never had a QT, I have however started doing freshwater dips prior to putting new fish in a tank...

(I dip the fish...):D

So are we going to add the clown I have to the tank? Should we trust him with a clown? ;)

Thought you said I could have the clown... :)

I went fish after fish before I found RC and other SW fish sites.

1- percula ( unknown )
2- 4-striped damsels ( told by psp to cycle the tank with them )
1- Royal gramma ( Didn't know at this point you had to let your tank cycle )
1- yellow tang ( PSP told me, sure you can keep a few tangs in a 36 gallon tank )
1- blue tang ( same reason as above )
1- Panther ( PSP- sure this is a great friendly fish that doesn't get large )
2- lions ( one had a skin disease and my tank started to crash so I lost the other one )
1- kole ( skin disease to. Diseases in the tank were a reason why the tank was crashing )

Then 2 anemones.... PSP told me they don't need much lighting at all.

Man am I glad a found these sites.
I lost two anemones that Nemo dive bombed and ruptured, a yellow tank that committed suicide by wedging himself between two rocks overnight. 4 damsels that either swam into the filter box or the mean damsel nipped at until he made the mistake of biting one of the horns off my cowfish (I actually snuffed that little b#s*((d myself).
I will NEVER buy another damsel again. That is the most psychotic fish I have ever seen.I don't care if they are supposed to cycle the tank. Nemo was a little hellian too until Spot and Beauty came to live with us. He doesn't bully anyone anymore. Oh and I almost lost Beauty when she grabbed a sand eel out of my hand and had it wedged in her throat with the tail end stickingout about 2 inches. If I wasn't so horrified, I would have taken a picture. She won't eat them now. I'm thinking about renaming her "Miss Piggy" since she also grabbed a huge piece of squid and swallowed it whole! She looked pregnant for awhile. At least Spot will take bites and chew his food.
