ritteri anemone

It looks better today. It can take over a week before a mag settles in and starts to eat. So, be patient and provide excellent conditions. As far as the clowns, I would wait a couple of days. Some say clowns help the anemone to acclimate. I think it can't hurt to let it settle a bit more. How large are the percs and how large is the anemone?

anemone is A LOT bigger than I thought. not fully open but I would say every bit of a foot across if not more and the female prec. is about 1.5-2 inches and the male is maby 1 inch? If that isn't right on it is close.

The clowns should be fine with it since they are so much smaller in comparison to the anemone. And yes, that sounds fine with the activated carbon, just something where the water is forced through it.

looks a little better. The small tenticle like things are very thin but most all of them are moveing and the whole thing got a little more active when I fed the fish last night. It did move a little up the wall lastnight taking that as a good sign... You had mentiond they like watter flow should I point the current in its direction? Would that help any?

Good random flow is what they prefer, not a ph pointed right at it, but say two power heads pointed where the currents collide and cause random water flow. Moving up the wall may be the anemone seeking out more light. Likely a good sign. Pics?

My Magnifica always like to have two PH meet right above them. It would be great if you have two of the propeller type PH. For normal PH. Point it to the surface from deep and let it "bounce" off the surface to the anemone. You can also bounce the PH off of a wall to the anemone. The first method is optimal while last two are not as good.

Well I have bad news... It died. it worked its way up to the top of the tank and got next to the inlet for my return and tried to attach to the return and it tore a hole in the foot of it up the side????? Don't know quite how that would happen but now I am very bummed out. Thanks for all of yalls time I am going to keep my watter quality the same and get ready for the next chance. Next time I'll be more ready!!!! You will hear from me again!)

I just hope that I can find another one in the future. Im more bummed about it dying that is by far my favorite thing about salt watter. I will get another one. Do you know a good source?

On occasion, Diver's Den or LiveAquaria.com (Drs. Foster and Smith) has mags available. I trust them as much as anyone. I once ordered a red flower anemone from them, and it was very healthy and well packed and settled in quickly and thrives today. In the Diver's Den section, you "get what you see" and they keep the animals until they are acclimated to artificial lights and are eating. Also, according to their literature, Drs. F&S have importers that take good care of the animals in transport.

I just checked and LiveAquaria.com does have a mag. I'd feel better recommending one from Divers Den, as that would mean the anemone has been at the facility and is eating and doing well. With LiveAquaria.com, it's a bit more of a crap shoot in the sense that they haven't had it at their facility as long. If you're interested, I suppose you could call and try to get as much info. as possible before ordering.

I think you really need to set up your rockwork so that there is a pillar for the Mag to perch on. Letting the nem move around on the tank glass walls is a sure precursor for puree. Also, after successfully following OrioN's Cipro protocol, I think having the things on hand to quickly get the nem into a HT is also key.
