Hi been awhile but Im still lurking of coarse.

I am wondering if the people who have had success with many mags, have noticed a difference in the behavior and posture of different variants.

specifically Has anyone noticed that purple base Mags like those found throughout the indo-pacific hoild their bodies higher and appear more...puffy

This is my 3 year old mag that I rarely feed and It stand tall in the water column nearly all the time.

However the Magnifica found in east Africa and the Mauritius Has a red base and a more purple oral disk. Although I see it come in shipments with its purple cousin so both may reside in these regions. The Red based mag holds itself lower in the water more spread out and in my eyes more floppy less full or puffy.

This is my new red base Mag in an acclimation tank his light cycle is 12hrs off and im slowly bring him around to our light cycle. he is doing well but not super.

he is my 2nd and the first one I sold after a year or so, but it was always less full looking then the purple one. So is that their normal state or should he be shaped more like my purple based mag? Im trying to get an idea what it is supposed to look like but all of the pics online I see the red ones look floppy.

ps would these two mags get along or kill each other if I ever wanted to put them in the same tank or system. .

thanks for the helps everyone

I have observed the purple based tends to hold its column high and the reddish based mags hold their tentacular crown lower and curving more over the column.

I haven't really noticed a difference. I don't understand what you're trying to explain, though. Do I need to start looking closer?????

Here's pic's of my blue and red. Am I missing something?????

I've got one with the same color base and I considered it to be a light purple.

That's why I was curious, like I said, I wasnt bashing.

No big deal man. I'm not color blind, but sometimes I do have a hard time drawing the line between colors that blend one into the other, like blue and purple, or orange and yellow. If yawl say it's purple, we'll call it purple.

nice shots EC, do you still have the tank with the red 1? any problems keeping the ritteri with the carpets or yur other nems?

Thanks. Ya, I still have the tank, but there were problems. As long as I changed 1/3 of the water at least every two weeks, and kept the carbon changed out, everything was fine. If I started slacking, the mag would go on a walk about. My mixing tank sprung a leak, and it took me quite a while to fix it, so I couldn't change water for a while. I moved the mag into another system with a large pair of maroons, so it wouldn't wander all over the tank. Within days the maroon had almost all the tentacles chewed off the mag, and it never recovered.:angryfire:

many sorry to hear that.

actually the red one i have in the one in question is sick and thats why it looked less inflated then my purple one your pictures are great EC thanks for the help once again :)
