river floating

what are some good river floating places around here?

preferably pretty close (if possible)

I mean the places where you rent the tubes/canoes, etc

What is close? Lots of stuff 2-3 hours away. The Jacks Fork is in my opinion the most gorgeous rive in the state. The Current river close behind it. Alley springs campground and canoe rental is in Eminance, MO and services both rivers. Also several closer out hwy 44, blue springs, Meramec State park, Huzzah valley just to name a few. They all use the Meramec river and the Huzzah and courtois rivers. All are good floats and enjoyable. If you go south down hwy 21 just south of Ironton you have the Black River which is also very pretty. Several outfitters down there too. We went to Bearcats last time. It is a great place for partiers. The crowd went all night and into the morning.

i don't think theres anywhere to float within an hour.
if you go out to the steelville area you have some choices, but thats 2-3 hours away.

Meramec State Park is right at 1 hr drive for me. They have nice float from above, back down to the park. That way when you get out you're at your veh and not on a time schedule or waiting for the bus. They say it's a 3-4 hr float but it as taken us 6 or 7 many times. We stop and fish and swim a LOT. It's not a bad float.

I just copied this from the post. there is a whole article about it but this is the summary of the new rules on the rivers this summer:

New rules for floaters

ATVs and motor vehicles are restricted to designated roadways, and banned from rivers and gravel bars.

Alcohol is permitted, but individuals are recommended to drink no more than six beers, or the equivalent in hard liquor.
No beer kegs • No beer bongs • No Mardi Gras beads • No Jell-O shots • No dry ice bombs • No air horns or loud stereos • No cliff diving, rope swings • No Styrofoam coolers • No coolers larger than 48 quarts.

if you float go camping. its a good reason to party and not sleep.

I go with about 30 people every summer. we always go to bass river resort too.

when with the girlfriends family we float the current in eminence.

jacks fork just got a bunch of new laws regarding alcohol.

I smell a Slash function brewing here. :D Camping is a blast, floating is a blast, add good friends to the mix and it would be an awesome time..
