The 75 GPD Premium from Buckeye is probably the best value today.
Prefilters and carbon blocks get changed every 6 months, the RO membrane should last 3-5 years or longer if maintained well and quality replacement filters are used and DI cartridges/resin are entirely dependent on your water conditions, your RO efficiency and how much water you make. Probably somewhere between 300 and 500 gallons is a safe estimate for a full 20 oz cartridge of quality resin.
RO or Reverse Osmosis is a process of passing water molecules through a semipermeable membrane or ultra thin piece of plastic film with microscopic pores in it. This removes 90-98% of the solids or contaminants.
DI or Deionization is an ion exchange process that attracts anything that is electrically charged for extremely pure water. DI by itself is not economical for most as it has a very short lifespan unless water is pretreated with RO. The combination of prefiltration, carbon adsorption, reverse osmosis and deionization is the best available technology.
