Is there anywhere locally I can buy a 100gpd Reverse osmosis membranes??? Also this membrane lasted less then a year why??? Am filling (or started) my 125 and water was high at 85 with my TDS meter so I changed all 3 filters (needed it) then the TDS meter read 2 ppm was happy.........filled tank........measured now at like 140ppm WOW... I need a
New membrane right? Have some on order be here wend. but would like to get 1 sooner. Also DI filter is hafe rust color already = witch means its being used up right?others look fine. Anyhow any of this sound right.

that's crazy, I'd replace the DI filter before the ro membrane again though.

Call Matt at Sho-Tank. He probably has them and I don't think that's too far from you.

There's also Sea Schor in Buffalo Grove and I think he's having a sale on RO's.

dam randal I was just in Crown Point today lol
Going to go to Valpo Monday.
What do you think Randal? It was a brand new DI filter
The membrane is maybe over a year ...they should last a couple of years right? and this new DI filter is already 1/2 rust color
could my TDS meter be bad?
Home depot has G/E membranes whats up with them?
My RO/DI is also set up for drinking water does the tank ever go bad inside? The unit is like 5-6 years old
Maybe stop Monday night on my way back?

Rockdiver,

I'm up in your neck of the woods, if you think your TDS meter is bad I have one you can use to test your water.

LMK if you want to meet up.

What brand of RO unit do you have? Also, Check the TDS of the water before the DI unit. That will help to determine what the problem is. Yes, a membrane should last more than 1 year. I get 3-4 out of filmtecs normally.

GE (Osmonics/Desal) membranes are much less efficient than filmtec. They only give their rated spec's at 65 PSI or higher. They are slightly less expensive but you'll pay in efficiency.

Check those numbers and post here, we'll get her working for ya one way or another.

thanks

I was hoping to check out that place in Fox Lake on Sunday (Something Fishy?). We could meet there if it works for you.

"Check the TDS of the water before the DI unit"
How is this done? I do have a drinking water kit on this....So with that said the TDS reading on that is like 50-60ppm over the DI reading

Randall is the guru here on RO units, and he would know better, but I beleive that a 100 GPD membrane only rejects 90 percent of nasties wheras a 75 GPD or less, will remove 98%.

I also agree with what he said about the filmtec vs Osmonics/Desal), and I will add that Matrix carbon blocks seem to be the choice for higher end units.

There is no name on the unit. I do have a drinking water kit on it.
The water before the DI is
140
DI = 136
reg tap= 165
what ya think
AFU huh
filled tank all good........ this is the only issue

another question could i just get a 75g membrane and put it in there? or do i need to change alot of things for that.

This unit gave good TDS water originally? If so the membrane is probably shot. Just for laughs, you may want to open the membrane housing and make sure the membrane is seated properly. While you are in there, check to see if the membrane has a foul smell or crackles when you squeeze it.

Yes, you could just put in a 75GPD and just change the flow restrictor if that unit has a standard housing. A pic of the whole unit might help....

OK no smell just water smell
and no crackling

these filters are only have about 150 gallons thru them

What are those filters? I see a sediment on the right. Looks like 2 di filters? Do you have a carbon block before the membrane? Should be in the middle there. If that middle one is a carbon block, it is deeply burnt toast!

What is the micron rating on the sediment filter? What is it on the carbon block? These should at least be equal, or the sediment should have a better (lower number) rating. Though I doubt this is your problem.

Do you regularly "flush" your membrane? At least weekly you should give it a 10min flush by opening the restrictor all the way and letting water run through it to waste.
