RO/DI vs bottled water

I've also seen great deals on ebay from air water & ice, our club sponser. I don't think you can go wrong either way.
Way cool - I didn't know airwaterice sold on ebay. Do you know their selling name?

Paul,

Their eBay name was similar to their company name. I just looked and didn't find any current auctions of theirs on eBay. I did see a 6-stage from filterdirect, with (2) DI chambers for around $100. This is the unit I bought from them.

I've never measured how much I waste. I have timed the production of the end product. I get about 5 gallons of usable water per hour. I think that varies greatly tho, for each person.

Well,

Here we go I will try to do my best to discribe what I just got. After talking the the owner of OKC Culligan I have got one of there DI machines and Carbon Filter. I have used water from EA from day one and never had a problem but I found many times that I was driving down to Norman too many times a week just to get enough water in my 35 gal jugs just to support Evaporation and Water Changes. So we discussed what my options were and this is what I found. They have a system that is $65 dollors for each exchange and it is "better the any LFS in OK!!!" He knows as he is the one who supplies them. I have found that all of my water from LFS was reading 001ppm on the TDS meter which it as good as it gets right. (I am thinking no way it could be better) But I give it a try. I get home takes 5 min to install UNDER sink in guest bathroom. I run about 5 Gal through new system and test and much to my surprise it reads 000PPM. At my current use it should be replaces about twice a year which is about $500 cheaper than driving to Norman from South OKC 3 times a week in a Dodgr Ram HEMI

The water from walmart is serviced monthly and is reverse osmosis, deionized and U.V. sterilized just so it is known :)

I do not have a TDS meter, but I have tested the water I get from Wal Mart and it registers 0 on Ammonia, Nitrates, and Phosphates.

I'll throw something else in, the air water ice unit has the gauges for the filters. so you get a visual of when each filter needs to be changed and you can get every gallon from each one. Plus the TDS meter comes with the unit. Plus the bypass for start up.

I think I'm going to bring several samples of water to the meeting. The first from my faucet, another from the water machine at the 2 Wal-Marts I may be using, and then a couple of easily found bottled waters. If the machines are putting out 0 nitrates, phosphates and ammonia, why not use them?

Bottled water is usually just carbon filtered tap water unless it says distilled. For over twenty years I used a three foot long 2" PVC pipe filled with reef carbon and I dripped tap water through it. Instant, practically free bottled water. Probably better, and the carbon would last for 6 months or more.
