RO/DI water storage

I have a 50 gal fish tank under my laundry room sink for storing the water and stuck a maxi jet with a hose on it for filling my buckets.

That depends on how much water I think I'm going to need.

2.5 gallon pressure tank under sink

5 gallon buckets

32 gallon brute

Depends on the size you need...

6 gallon water containers (~$6-7 at walmart... blue ones)

32 Gallon trash cans
55 gallon trash cans
55gal drums

etc etc etc

Any truth to some plastic trash cans leaching chemicals into the water?

I've been using them for years for my freshwater and since starting my reef tanks - no problems at all. I did some research before doing this with my reef water and all indications seems to be that this is how most people store their water without incident. I have a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) tester and I did a test by leaving my water in the container for a week. I tested it when I first filled it, then I added the salt (Tested again). After a week I tested and got the same readings for TDS - FWIW.

Make sure you get a very sturdy container because mine bows out when they're full of water, now I need to replace them (I have the Rubbermaid containers - 35g and a 25g).
