RO/DI will not turn off

Hey guys,

My filters delivered this morning for my Typhoon RO/DI. Everything is installed and not leaking... Great! I used the self piercing "supply" line when doing my install but i'm not seeing a shut off valve anywhere. there is a valve on my wastewater line, but if i turn it off, i still get rodi. I do have a quick flush, and a RO only valve as well... and i think a DI bypass.... do i just need to grab a valve to turn off the output?

I would not rely on the self taping inlet to be a shut off as doing that multiple times could cause it to leak. I would install a shutoff valve in the line after that.

What is your water pressure?
Do you have an ASOV valve?

What type of valve is on the "good water out" line?
Typically with proper pressure and a functioning ASOV valve all you do is have a valve right where you get your good water from.. Closing that should cause the ASOV valve to work and stop the waste water from flowing... (it can take a few seconds/minute or so)

Well, i picked this unit up from a bud who had an auto top off etc. so i just have an un-valved line coming from the output.

You need a valve on that output then, and if the ASOV is functioning the waste line should also stop flowing as said above.

Edit: He beat me :)

I would valve the input line, I would not trust the ASOV to shut the unit off.

While the ASOV works, I would not rely on it. My BRS unit will keep intermittently sending water down the waste line if I just use the ASOV. For this reason I have a shut off on the input line also.

Besides if you need to change a cartridge you need to shut the supply water off or you'll have water everywhere when you unscrew the cartridge.

Well, why would there be a valve on the waste water but not the output? maybe my bud set it up wrong? Could i move the valve from the waste water to the output hose and bobs your uncle?

There should not be a manual valve on the waste line..
(unless maybe the ASOV valve wasn't working so they were using that to shut off the waste)

So moving it to the good line won't fix the broken ASOV valve..

Or you have it all hooked up incorrectly..
Airwaterice has fantastic diagrams on their site.. check those first.. then move the manual valve over to the good line and see what happens...

But yes.. like Homer said I actually valve the input line.. Why.. because my ASOV valve never worked right either... :)
I haven't tried it in my new home to see if it was just a pressure issue or something.. I had 50PSI in my old house on average.. I turned my new one up to just over 60PSI..

^^ I'm betting thats what you are seeing..

Again.. go look at the diagrams to see what you have before making us assume you have a goofy setup :)

I agree...

welp, i got it all sorted. the valve was in fact on the waste water outlet. I just switched things around so the valve was on the tap inlet side and all's good. thanks ;)

This is a symptom of a leaking check valve. Easy, quick replacement.
