RO System?

I have an RO/DI buddie and it makes plenty of water for my 29G system. With that said, in the last year I have replaced the DI stage twice so far, and the carbon section once.

I would probably have been better off just spending the extra 50 to 100$ bucks initially and not having to buy 2 DI filters and a carbon block already bringing the cost of the cheaper unit up more so then a more expensive unit which I wouldn't have to have bought 2 DI stages already.

Buckeye Hydro - What would you recommend for a 90 G reef tank? Raw water is fairly good here in Dayton.
No chloramines that I'm aware of in the Dayton area, so one of our Premium RODI units would be a good fit. Assuming you are planning on having some storage capacity for DI water? If so, a 75 gpd, or 75 gpd MAXR unit would be a good choice.

So if one system has a 1 micron filter and another has a 5 micron filter and the tds coming out is 0 in both, what is the difference?

The 1 micron sediment filter will keep more sediment out of your carbon blocks and membrane. So the carbon will be more available to do its job, and the membrane will have to process less TSS.

While the 1 micron will clog up faster it is also the cheapest filter to replace saveing the more expensive filters.

The 1 micron filter would clog up faster.

Yep - that is what sediment filter do when they work correctly.

If they clog too quickly, that is a good reason to add an additional stage to a default four stage RODI. For most people however, and based on what I've seen over the last 16 years or so, a 1 micron sediment filter will not have an impractically short useful life span.

I currently use spectra pure but used Kent unit without a problem. If I'm not mistaken you pick the unit based on the quality of you water source.
