rochester water quality

well, unlike the old glory days I cannot use rodi water or cant without a monstrous PITA. What is the water quality in rochester city? mostly concerned about phosphates. is their a water quality report available...

progress is good just waiting for the tank to clear. Hate that I have to use tap. UGH!!

Rochester tap is very good compared to the rest of the nation, however- over the long haul you will end up accumulating TDS that will harm your reef critters.
Don't bother with the water quality report. It's like yesterday's news. Quality fluctuates from day to day.
I believe that CF and TRS sell RO water. You're closer to both of them now, Ben.

I've been wondering if an idea of mine would work. Could a person set up a small tank with a HOB filter (like an Emperor) using Carbon and a Phosphate removing compound chamber to clean up the tap water if an RO/DI is not feasible? This seems like it would get rid of a lot of the unwanted stuff excluding silicates. Maybe, encouraging diatom growth could help with this? Just a thought.

ive known reefers here in roch (guy i purchased my tank from and a couple others)that used only tap water for 2 years in fairport and he said never had issues......i used tap water for a few months and had a algea bloom but i tend to feed a bit heavier then most people....and at times way to much.....but i do weekly water changes now and have a ro/di unit.........its not the best for a salt system but its possible....Remember everyones tank is different and everyone has a their own opinion...Gary is right that Rochester's water is better off then most and im not sure the level but the metal levels could in the long haul put your tank under stress....last time i set my tank up i used tap to fill it and so far 6 months and no issues......

i used tap water for about 6months before the CYNO went nuts, switched to RODI and havn't had the problem since. I live in Irondequoit by the way.
