Rock deployment 6/23/15

Was on the way to the maria this morning before daylight....looked to be a flat calm gorgeous day to put 3250# of Walt Smith eco-rock on the bottom of the gulf.



But looks can be deceiving....looked great inside the barrier islands....gut got out there and conditions slowly deteriorated as the rock was going over the side.



Looks nice here....but got out to the site and waves were building....south east wind...2-4 foot with whitecaps...after such a smooth ride out...



We took the "Gulf Lander" out today for more bottom video....CuuzA will be editing it today!




came home and loaded another 1650# on the boat...and when the sun goes down here this afternoon...another 1650# going on the boat as it is deadly HOT down here LOL....

Correct...can't pull it up if ya don't put it down. The new Walt Smith 2.1 rock will be a game changer in the live rock industry.

100% eco friendly, man made zero impact to the environment, other than making a new reef on the bottom for the fish and inverts to live in....

This is an alternative to ripping up the planets natural coral rock and reefs to supply the live rock to the United States and world.

I am thinking MACNA will be a good venue for Walt Smith to show this new eco-friendly cultured 2.1 real live rock to the industry.

I just looked at the video. Holy Mangrove Snapper!!! We're bring rods for sure next time. They are thick down there. Visibility was better than the previous video and you can see more color. Especially the purple of Walt Smith-Tampa Bay Saltwater Rock. Yellow shows well in the juvenile French grunts, quite a few filefish and a couple grouper and there was a MASSIVE ray that cruised by. A lot more fish this time. Really cool. Unfortunately, the current was ripping pretty good and some of the shots are sideways and the wire made it into the vid quite a bit. I have a solution for that.

Obviously once I'm scuba certified in the next couple weeks the first thing I'm buying is this... As long as it fits well.

why import Walt Smith 2.1 rock. could you not make it cheaper here in fla. it's just concrete or am i wrong. i know every piling seawall has stuff growing on it.

Well ...I wish it was that easy. It is not just concert ....it is a propitiatory mixture of many materials that are not available here in the US.

Is the reason it is so lightweight and has such great consistency. I experimented over thirty years ago making rock, and it is not easy to make something that works. Walt's rock is the candidate for aquaculture of live rock in my book.

it's easy to make concrete lightweight with air entrainment or perlite. it could even float.
i worked with the stuff for a lot of years
cool stuff though..i am glad to see there's someone making a eco friendly rock.

There is a market for the rock.....if you can produce it..and it looks good....

it will sell....
