Rock Flower Anemone

I got this beauty a few weeks ago and it's really a great buy! I love it and was wondering if someone has a good link to info on rock anemone. It's eating very well, I am able to squirt half a cube of spirilina brine a day. It's about 3.5". Has a beautiful pink color! How do these propagate?

That is a pretty one. They reproduce sexually. They aren't known to reproduce by asexual division. They have successfully spawned and hatched in captivity. They are found from southern Florida into the Caribbean. I don't know of an informative article on them. You can search by their Latin name: Epicystis crucifer.

Thats a bummer, I thought I would have a few of these guys after some time... I guess if I want more I will have to buy at least one more...

Yes, asexual reproduction doesn't seem to happen in this species (and many other anemone species, for that matter).

Why wouldn't they be able to? If there's a male and a female, I can't imagine why not. I expect many similarly colored E. crucifer came from parents with those same colors.

I see a small gravel like growth on the under side of the anemone. This from my research look like eggs.

Yes, they are not sexually dimorphic, so a crap shoot indeed. The eggs would be deep inside the column of the anemone except when they spawn. I've a few of mine spawn, and unfortunately they are males. I have 7 total, so surely there's a girl in the mix somewhere.

This link here shows egg sacks attached to the outer rim of the anemone, similar to mine. However shown on this site they are shown as clear sacks. My anemone seems to have a rock like sack... Maybe it's just that, a rock lol! During my feeding today I will try and get a picture of it. Hopefully its not some type of parasite.

I see what you mean srusso. The anemone already spawned and is "brooding," as they put it in the link. With some species of anemone it seems that fertilized eggs are kept inside the body of the anemone. Sometimes larvae, after the eggs hatched, can be seen inside the anemone moving--waiting to be expelled. Maybe you will have babies sooner than you think.

I got a picture of the (what I believe to be) an egg sack on the side of my anemone. I have to admit it looks like a rock in person...
