Rock making Party

humdit heat is tho, that is how they do it with mass production of pileons and such concret things...the humid heat makes the calcium hydroxide bond to the silicates faster which makes them harden faster...bout 4-6 hours....

Even if we get it to harden fast, the really lengthy time is the time spent leaching out the lime/calcium so it would still have to sit in the creek for a couple months. I have read about using acid, and have tried vinegar myself. It is not good for soaking, only for scrubbing of the initial film of scum. If you soak in it, it weakens the rock, and the ph spikes again a little while later.

i'd i have been following a thread that travis has been doing it doesnt seem like it is not goin to spike if you take all of the salt out first then nutrialize the calcium hydroxide but idk...i think i am goin to have to do some experiments at home with it... but i need to use something more acidic than vinigar because the calcium hydroxide that is causing the ph spike is some wheres around 12.5 or higher and vinigar is only like 2.7 i think dont quote the numbers but it is close, but yet something that wont eat the rock away....

Sunday

Sunday

Guys, I'm going to have to back out for Sunday, We just switched to a 12 hour work day schedule at my work place, and I start my sched on sunday the 20th. Sorry about that guys...looks like you will be hand mixing the cement :) Have a good time, I will for sure miss being there

Very sorry you won't be there George. We'll miss your help. How critical is the mixer for the amount of cement we'll be mixing. Is it possible to rent one cheaply or can we do it by hand. John, do you have something we can mix it in?

by hand will be fine for the amount we are mixing up.... a wheel barrel will be needed to mix it in tho, and probibly some shovels or hoes to mix it with...

Hi guys, sorry I can’t make it this weekend. I have a prior commitment I can’t get out of. I have always wanted to make some DIY rock. It looks like a really fun project. Good luck this weekend!

Drizzle has started to come down a little harder I covered the Rock up with a tarp and Plastic... Lets hope it all cures nicely!

Thanks John for hosting a fun rock making party. It was funny to see a bunch of adults playing with mud pies. I'll try to post pictures as soon as I get the time. It will be interesting to see how these things turn out. So far the one I brought home looks OK. A couple of little cracks but its hardening up quickly.

My piece traveled well. I have a hard time not going out and cleaning it to see the result. I will wait tho. Thanks John. Lets hope they turn out.

the suspence is to much....need to touch...lol...mine looks good the little pies i made on the top are pretty hard...looks like it will be good...thanks john for hosting and the use of your creek...
