Rock Rack Pics Please

Can you please post some pictures of racks that you've made out of PVC, eggcrate, etc. for placing LR on. I'm setting up a 180 now and would like to keep the inside of the rock structure as open as possible and keep down the costs of purchasing more LR.

Thanks!

For the BB set up I bought the 3/4" thick piece of HDPE from Port plastics. For the dsb set up, i buy the 1/2" acrylci as scrap from a tankmaker as i have made quyite a few of these rocklifts custom for people...i go through quite a bit of it.

The 3/4" acrylic rods I buy from mcmaster-carr. part # 8531K21

Grindign the teeth in the tops of the rods works great. it sticks to your rock like glue and the tops of the rods make the most stable rockgripping platform you can imagine

I have my LR elevated to keep swimming room to a maximum for all my tangs. The aesthetics of the pipes showing are not an issue to me, it will cover over coraline in time anyway. The towers are all really stable and I have had no problems with falling rocks (other than frags).

Very cool, and unique. I never would have imagi8ned what that could look like, and am pleasantly surprised.

Good job.

Thanks for the compliment Bill. The swimming room is really important for the fish but I think a more traditional reef tank with stacked rock is more aesthetically pleasing. When I upgrade the pipes are defiantly going!

eznet2u: I'm no photographer and I need to get a better camera but here's my FTS and a right side shot (not very exciting). The left side is even less exciting due to equipment and the large rock (so I'm not posting it unless you want it).

Here's a closer shot of the rock pieces that are elevated. For some reason, when I get closer to the tank, the camera focuses better. The PVC can be disguised better than I have it now with rock rubble; my vlamingii has a habbit of knocking everything over that's not tied down so I gave up. I think it's some sort of sport for him.

I think that if the pipes are more colored (coraline), it would be better of course, but the concept is cool in that is is almost magical surroundings, surealistic, (suspended rocks)

Definately a subject to talk about ...

Cant wait to see your next version...

Thanks for the pics fishyvet. It is a little surreal looking. I am thinking that if you put coral in front of them, after they grew you would not see the pipes...Good job.
