rock work on walls

as the title says im redoing my rock work and was wondering if its alright to put the live rock up against the glass, the back of it. i dont think anything would be wrong with it except the scratches but thats on the back.lmk please. ideas comments welcome

I have never had any prob with it most people seem to do it very common i would say .......but does cause scratches

I have LR against my tank walls of my 75 gal. reef. If I had to do it over, I dont think thats the way to go. It impedes flow/circulation makes it impossible to clean behind. I also dont think it makes for a natural look, thats my .02 cents Johnnie

I have some of my live rock against the glass. It's touching the back glass, but not really leaning up against it. A few thoughts:

1. rocks touching the walls are better than a rock sliding down and crashing into the wall
2. I don't know the dimensions of the tank, but if you have visible parts of the back wall you wish to scrape/clean, rocks will make it more difficult.
3. make sure there is enough flow behind the wall.

thanx for the reassurance fellas. the rock work is on the back of the wall. as for the flow i scraficed a maxi jet900 on a wavemaker behind the rock. if it takes a poop i will have to move 2 rocks so it wont be that bad of a pain in the a$$. bryan good news you will get the fish intact as i will not have to put any explosives in there. joe bad news,lol cant go tonight ill pm ya.

I was always told never to put stuff against the back glass for flow reasons...creates dead spots....I'd love to stack all my stuff against the back glass.....

when i first set up my current tank i had no rock on the walls. i have since leaned a few pieces on it up high and created small tunnel but mostly due to fear of poor flow my back wall is clean

I have laways been told that due to flow restriction it is not an ideal thing to place rock on the walls.

All of this talk of rocks makes me want to dig in and do some new rock scaping. Who in are group are the rock scaping pros? I am greta at making piles that tend to fall lol

I always wanted to do that ,but once I set up, all my rocks are to big to tincker with.So it is what it is now,,,lol

When i did my 75 nothing was touching but some were close and it was a hassle to keep clean. Also you will get the occasional turbo snail that will fall over and land where you can't see or reach. On my 220 i made sure i have room to run my mag-float past everything. With the use of fiberglass rods you can build some cool shapes that are stable. Also it leaves more swimming room for fish and more surface area for mounting corals. My .02
