the membrane u will just have to test with a tds meter. Get one and let us know your readings.
For your faucet adapter I personally prefer plumbing it into the plumbing under your sink where it can sit out of the way. Here are some parts that would be needed. I would be happy to give more info on using them if needed...
Another option as far as mounting/storage locations is your laundry room or closet. I put my RO/DI right above the washer and I got one of the adapter's from AirWaterIce so that I could hook it up via a Y off of my cold water supply and then of course the drain pipe for my washer is also a perfect drain pipe for my RO/DI.
