RODI storage container - Laundry bleach?

I was at Macs hardware today and picked up an 18gallon drum that was used for laundry bleach. Just wondering if id be able to neutralize any remaining bleach. I would like to use the container for RODI storage because only having five gallons of water on hand is really starting to drive me crazy.

thanks

Some residule bleach may be inbedded in the plastic. I used acid Muratic acid for pools is good. CAUTION acid releases chlorine as a free ion, chlorine gas very toxic so carfull not to breath fumes. roll tank on a pre wetted lawn then rinse with water and then baking soda. Poof!!! no cl residue. I use one for my r/o this is how i preped it. (vinagar works in place of pool acid)

so would you recommend an acid soak, btw i would have to wait quite a few months to see my lawn, unless you think a foot of snow will work lol, but i think i understand the process, good to know i can use the tank

I wouldn't risk it. A strong acid will undergo a free radical rxn letting loose Cl-, but it is unsure whether the acid or the Cl will be the limiting reagant. In other words, there is a chance that there will be remining Cl in the container.

So your saying that the acid will cause the remaining sodium hypochlorate to release free Cl ions? Is there a compound that can be added to water to form an aqueous solution that the container can be rinsed with after the acid wash to bond to the free Cl ions?
