Rods Food & cyano bacteria?

Moving Out
I bought some Rod's Food last summer. I was so excited to get this food. Well I started feeding it & after 1 week, I had a cyano bacteria outbreak. I stopped using it & after 2 weeks all the cyano bacteria was gone. I have not used the Rod's food since then.

Anyone who is or has been feeding Rods Food:
Do you have cyano in your tank?
Did you ever have this problem like me?
Should I give Rods Food another chance?

How much were you feeding? A little of that goes along way.

Same amount as my frozen mixture. I use hykari mysis, cyclopeeze, selcon, & kent garlic. I have never had a problem with my food. Maybe it was a stroke of bad luck. I have been cyano free for the 8+ months.

klasiksb, do you have cyano or did you ever have it when using Rods Food?

Re: Rods Food & cyano bacteria?

The same thing happened to me this past fall, I thought it was something else.
My friend gave me some of Rod's to try out and I never put one & one together, and now that I've looked back on my log that had to be the problem. cyano was gone 12 days after I stopped.
Now I can log that to my problem.

Thanks

I've been using Rod's food for over a year and never had any problems with cyano.

I once switched to Red Reef food in a pinch and had a huge diatom outbreak.

Give Rod's another chance but remember a little goes a long way!!!

I also had a cyano outbreak soon after using Rods food. I feed it very sparingly now. My fish and corals love it though.

I've been feeding Rod's food for a little over 2 years now and I have never had any issues with it. Just remember you don't need much so like many have already said a little goes a long way.

How much is a little? That seems to be the problem. I have some cyano still in my refugium, but the main tank has stayed clear - ever since the phosphate remover went in the sump.

I have been feeding Rod's food for a year and I OVERFEED bigtime and no outbreaks....sounds like something else is the culprit....

I heard Red Reef food causes cyano problems fast. Maybe you have them mixed up. The packages look similar.
