Rod's food!

I got worried, cause I only get out there from April-October, so I bought an extra bag last year. Still using up the 1st one, it's lasted me almost a year!

Unfortunately I am feed two fairly large tanks so I go through a fair amount of food. One bag lasts a little over three weeks. The food is superb for the fish and the corals seem to love it as well. Yes, I think that $30 is a fair price. The LFS has to make a profit as well or they won't carry it.

I also love the food... it is ALL that i put for frozen into my tank.. ( i also put in DTs pro) i have had great sucess since i have gone to only these 2 foods.. no more pellets or flakes (tend to over feed)
i cut up his block into like 1 1/4" by 3/4" chuncks when i get it ( after a re freeze) and DILLIGENTLY feed one chunck per day it thaws quick and you can feed quickly and easily.. and its pre measured.. no more hmm which of these 20 diff frozen food should i thaw and feed today... no more ! BTW look at my sig, i feed a large system as well

My pack of food usually lasts a good month and i break off decent sized chunks. It should last me a lot longer though now that I am feeding every other day.

that is a very similar question that my wife asked me when I said I wanted to move to Sugar Grove from Naperville...where is Sugar Grove, she asked?....

I forgot to mention the little-but most important fact-Sugar Grove is only a 20 min. ride to Rods..the trip includes 1 stop light and 4 stop signs...COOL!!!!!!!!

If coming from the east, East/west toll-way (I-88). Exit Peace Road, which is the first DeKalb exit (about 22 miles past the Sugar Grove Exit). Turn Left on Peace Road until it dead ends into Gurler Road (about 1/2 mile). Turn Right on Gurler Road for about 1.5 miles and you'll come to a stop sign which is rte.23. Turn Left on rte. 23 for about 3 miles to 15100 rte 23.. On the left side of the road, you will see a bluish gray house with 2 buildings out back. I am in the smaller of the 2 buildings. He has a big wooden "Buehler" sign and an "open" sign in the window.

I too am fully sold on Rod's food. The time it takes to blend along with the number of different ingredients as well as the extra time packaging limits the production. Rod makes this stuff up, as Puffer had said earlier, for his own use and as a bonus for fellow reefers who come out to visit.

So do yourself a favor - get out to visit the store. One the best sellections of SPS and Zoos you'll find and pick up some of this food while you're there.

Hey double D, it was nice meeting you at Rod's. I was there the night Benji was there, talking about lighting, algea issues etc. Did you happen to try out a foxface yet?

No foxface yet - that will be the very last ditch effort. I did add the 2 rabbit fish (scribbled in one tank, orangespot in the other) though. They are all kind of ugly to me - maybe if I can find a small Magnificent Foxface I'd try it. I did see one of the rabbits nipping at the rocks/algae last night (not the hair algae, but it was a start).

It's always nice meeting new reefers. We all probably could have stood around at Rod's and talked for several more hours but it just seems the longer I stay the more I find that I want/need to buy - like those low-rider zoos:).

Has any one tried Rod food yet.. maybe we should be rolling it in seaweed and rice and call it ROD sushi..lol

Soooo, I went to Rod's last night, and whattya know, I walk in again as he was making his "Rod's food". But this time, instead of it seeming like walking in on some mobsters :bum:, it was more like when yosemite sam walks in on bugs bunny dressed up like a chick and bugs (rod) screams :eek1: and slaps me in the face! lol....but seriously....I was there for over 3 hours and before I got there he had already started up his batch of food and was still making it after I left. I couldn't believe the painstaking process he goes through to make it up for all of us. After seeing all the ingredients and seeing the correct way to saturate certain ingrediants, blend differant ingredients, the order in which to add each item, and for all of it not to become a sloppy mess, I was amazed.
