How long does it take for them to darken up? I have a pair in my Ritteri anemone that is still small, got them as little itty babies about 6 months ago or so.

It depends, some nems help them and they get jet black at abou 8months. Other times certain nems make them lose the onyx. It also depends on how dark they are. If they are young and are starting to get a black dorsal they pretty much are guaranteed to get full onyx. Pics would greatly help.

i heard they could take up to 2 years before getting all the black. i got mine about 2 months ago, the black nicely filled between the 1st and 2nd bars, nothing between the 2nd and 3rd bars yet. hopefully soon.

Same here. I'm interested in the OP's question as well.

Also, I don't think I'll have an anemone in the tank. (Not 100% on this) Has anyone experienced this/heard about their coloration in a tank w/out 'nems?
