Rod's onyx growth/progress update

I thought it would be helpful to have a thread to see how people's rod's onyxs were doing.

Here is my onyx that I bought almost 1.5 months ago, he was about half an inch long:

He's gotten slightly larger, probably 1/5-1/4 of an inch, a bit more black around the middle stripe, and has black on his lower two fins now. I will take a pic and upload tonight. i still won't release him into the main display tank as he can't compete for food and the flow is too high.

I try to feed 2-3 times a day, but I can only feed after i get back from work. He seems to like 1mm otohimie pellets and cyclopeeze a lot, but pays no attention to flake.

how fast is everyone else's onyx growing? mine still doesn't have that much black on him

I think mine are from the same batch.

When I first got them (bout .75 inch)-->

bout 1.5-2 months later (little over an inch)-->

I can see the black coming in more and more between the first and second white stripe. The tail stripe is coming in nicely with black around it.

I introduced them to the tank after having them for about 2 weeks. They took pretty quickly to prime reef flakes that I broke up. (I used the same container you did). When I introduced them to the tank I guided them with a net to the bubble tip and they took within 20 min. Never leave it very far, except to get food and are very aggressive eaters (have to be in my tank).

wow t4zalews, nice fish. how did u guide them into the rbta? mine has been in its plastic container for the entire time ive had them, almost 1.5 months! don't we still need to feed them 2-3 times a day? i only feed my other fish every other day...

aren't u afraid of them losing color in their rbta?

Guiding them to anemone-->
when I first introduced them to the tank I let them hang out for the night and a day to see if they would find the anemone themselves. they didnt. So I took a net with a big net and put the net around the fish and guided him to the anemone. When at the anemone I put the net face down on the anemone so that they fish was forced meet the anemone. I left the net in the water and left the room, 20 min. later I see that he was rubbing in the anemone so I took the net out and he stayed in the anemone. The other clownfish saw how much fun he was having and decided to join.

Feeding-->
I fed mine close to 4-5 small meals a day so that they would get used to the flake food first of all (thats all I feed my tank), and so that they would start getting agressive with food. They grew pretty quickly and when I saw them mowing down big flakes I knew they were ready. When in the main tank I fed the whole tank and I saw them be aggressive and eat so no worries in this department. I feed my tank 2-3x a day, enough so that everyone gets some action.

Fading color-->
I'm going to keep them in the green bubble tip for the time being because they won't display full color at such a young age and I don't feel like taking this bubble tip out right now. So for the time being they will enjoy this anemone. I will swich the anemone out for probably a carpet when they really start to grow and color.
