tony, do you have any more pics of the babies that are ready for sale?

for anyone that has been to rods recently, have you noticed any unusual patterns(not misbars). ex. enlarged middle bar.etc

one of my future goal is to pair up a rodonyx with a snowflake and/or picasso. if someone in the hobby can dev. clowns with rods heavy black color and body along with irregular snowflake/picasso markings. in my opinion, that will be the ultimate stock! :) i think its hard to find wc onyx with strong dominate black coloring as in rods brood stock.

thank you rod. youve definetly have made the hobby more interesting for me personally.

Here are 2 of his clowns that I received 2 weeks ago. They have grown so much since I have had them. Not sure I should be feeding them till they take the form of a ball. They have no unusual patterns but the maleââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s middle bar is pretty thick. Rod said they were about 6 months old when shipped.

excellant..

yeah i have to admit i feed my clowns until i see the belly enlarged. im trying to push them faster towards breeding potential.

nano. beautiful babies. they both look like they have a strong future. did you handselect them or shipped.

I just left Rod's and it is so neat to see his clowns at different growth stages. He has them from eggs getting ready to move to four different sizes up to ones for sale.

no clue if this is true or not but i read somewhere that over feeding in single doses can actually lead to less growth than smaller amounts because their digestive track is unable to digest large amounts of food like that and it just gets wasted. in the wild they rarely come across large amounts of food like that so they are designed to be constant feeders and digest small amounts at a time. so feeding really small amounts a few times a day would be better.

again no clue if that is true but it sounds like it makes sense.

Thought I would post some updated photos. I have learned that the fish eat more if you feed over a 1-2 hour period. When they are full they stop eating. I just feed a little at a time and they seem to be doing great. Meet Jellyman and Coral...

I had them shipped. I have been known to drive from PA to half way across Ohio to go to a pet store, but his place is a little far.

I did ask rod to try to send me a pair with a little white on the dorsal fin. Will the white bar get any larger with age or do you think thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s about as far as it will go on them? I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t think my male will go full onyx, but it might be too early to start guessing. What do you all think?

I have been feeding 2 times a day, both in the evening. First with Ocean Nutrition Formula two marine pellet and then with Cyclop-eeze flake. They all so get some frozen mysis shrimp when the anemone gets fed. They have almost doubled in size in 2 and 1/2 weeks. They also got a treat when the hermit crabs babies hatched last night. The female didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t seem too interested, but the male was eating them up under the moon light.

what intrigues me is that i cannot find anyone else on rc that has a pair of rods onyx before the time i purchased mine. it would be interesting to see a pair that is several years old. and even better yet a breeding pair.

There was a person on RC, I think her name was Marina, who had a breeding pair of onyx. I have never seen her post pictures, but I thought she had some youngsters months ago.

im talking about a breeding pair of rods clowns.

yes im aware marinap breeds also. but her clowns do not exhibit the traits i want.

I heard on another board that MarinaP has a pair or more of chrystogasters, can anyone tell me if this is true, I have a friend that is looking for some.

Inland Aquatics has a breeder pair of onyx for sale. But from their email it seems that the pair is not breeding true. They said they only have one pair that breeds true with the onyx variety and thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s where they get the juvenile pairs that they sell. This makes me wonder if you have to get really lucky to get a pair that produces lots of onyx fry like rods.
