Rod's Onyx

i have and have had many onyx, including rodonyx.and btas with some onyx can affect the black. some do not, some do.

the best bet if your into your onyx is just to not have it with a bta.

i would recommend any juv waiting for onyx dev. to culture without a bta.

My problem is this...mine aren't with a BTA, they are with a H. Crispa and still lost their color. Hopefully it will come back eventually...I don't know though. It doesn't seem consistent with what I have read and have been told by others. I'm sort of perplexed.

I have mine with a rbta, even though they host it only 50% of the time and the other 50% on a frogspawn. My onyx clowns colored up fairly quickly. In about 5-6 months they are about 95% black between their stripes.

My two from rod never colored up either. Although the female did develop a brown color where the black should be. I’m still hopeful for her though. I received them last may. They have been in my rose anemone since I got them and they don’t ever leave it for more than 5 seconds at a time. I think they would both have hart attacks if I removed their anemone

mine from feb 06 hasnt completely colored up yet either... the front looks darker and has spread a little... and he grew a 3rd stripe with fairly thick black around it, but not creeping towards the 2nd stripe.

So with the so called problem with them coloring and the bta, would you advise to let them color and then get a bta, or would they not host it then?

Yes, I do.

The first pic is a day after I first added them to my 10 nano. You can see that I already purchased them with a good amount of black on them. Pic was taken in June.

I'm not saying that he cant, or that his fish aren't awesome. I'm just saying that I know he has a big rep around here, considering he posts almost every other post. nothing wrong with it.

Most of the times. I also feed them a pure spirulina "soft" pellet food.

mine now a couple months on and big one has no third stripe im starting to think i never will and small one has its third almost dev.

if mine get to the size of G13s and the female still has no third stripe i will worry mine look about half the size of g13s

well i like the look of a perfect onyx but i like the clowns no less just wish they would color together the same

I am sure they will color up. mine looked like that. in Feb I will have had them a year. they both have their 3rd stripe in and the black is starting to fill.
