I have one missing the third stripe and I live in the Chicagoland area!

For a photo, see page #8 of this thread and half way down that page.

Cool Sara, how much? And how far away are you from Libertyville or Gurnee?

Sorry, I didn't know you were looking for some to purchase...I thought it was a general question. I'm not looking to sell them as I have a mated pair. Check with Rod in about 4 months as he has a new batch that he is raising.

Yes, I saw that post! I had hoped for the 3rd stripe, but I think he's also cool without it. It would be interesting to see how their offspring would develop! :D

from what i know of genetics in animals that produce many babies a fully developed rodonyx pair and a pair of rodonyx misbars would not produce different offspring

only one way to find out, raise up some babies

isnt one of rods pair a misbar?

I'm not sure that misbarring is even genentic...isn't it most often attributed to environmental factors during metamorphasis?

right, same with bent gill plates and smushed faces like the picasso clowns my LFS recently got in. :(

My little male ocellaris has bent gillplates...it's sad :(

I thought the smushed faces were caused by inbreeding. Meh...oh well.

I know that Rod sells them for $70 and they are not even mature and that that's a good price but was just looking around to see if I could find a slightly better price. So...If anbody doesn't want theirs I'll buy them.

If anybody has Rod's clowns in the Chicagoland area with out the third stripe or some other undesirable trait pm me.

:) I've got several of the Rod Onyx, including at least three mis-bar, but wouldn't think of selling them. You might find someone willing to sell by watching the CMAS forum. There was one within the last week, but I think it is already gone!

Most of the Rod Onyx owners I know consider them part of the family, so you might consider just trying to locate some good Rod Onyx specimens without worrying about the price as much!

I hope you get a nice pair! ;)

How long did any of you have to wait after you got a pair of rods onyx for them to finally have offspring? Just curiouse as to how long im going to have to wait for mine to have babies after i get them :)

My pair matured at the age of 2 and started to spawn. Rod has another pair that started to spawn a bit sooner than that.

Not at the moment but I can take some. My female is missing its last bar but I knew that when I got them from Rod. Male looks pretty good. Female is way bigger than the male. My female is also pretty light in color lately since she started laying eggs, I am not sure why, but she is really healthy and lays eggs regularly for about 4 months now. She could be light due to the BTA they are kept in, since this is now starting to seem very common. I honestly I am not sure I believe it though, I have seen some real dark ones in btas before. I also had a two month period where I was working so much I feed them only dry food.

Eggs look very healthy. At the end of June i should have my rotifer cultures going and hopefully if all goes well I should have my first batch of fry by the end July or so...

By the way at imac the reefs.org booth had a tank set up with some clowns in it and I reconized them right away as Rods clowns. Honestly they have a much deeper orange almost red than any wild caught clown.

mine never showed signs of third stripe until they started hosting the carpet. now it looks as if she will have a black third stripe but i dont care i love her anyway...

i agree the orange in my avatar says it all.

Mine have been hosting in a RBTA and I have not noticed any fading in color. I feed mine a mix of frozen cyclopeez, mysis, and spectrum pellets. I soak my foods in selcon and zoe a few times per week.
