With you being in New Jersey you only need a standard UPS Ground shipment, since you're only two days away. That shouldn't cost you more than $10 for the shipping, and then another $10 for the box / dryice.

Oh ok, Then I'll probably order some in the next two weeks.

Sure you could make your own. But by the time you got done doing all the different foods he puts into it, it would cost you allot more even if you could figure out everything he puts into it. He puts alot more in than what you list.

It's only a home made mash with "natural Rose" added to it.

Natural Rose is Natural Astaxanthin Powder which will bring out the oranges..

I just go to an asian market and buy some white fish, roe, shrimp etc and blend it all up adding some nori and many other things laying around.
This will last me for a year for about 20 bucks.

No I didn't take the time to list ingredients there are many threads on home made foods already. Its a simple home made mash that can easily be made cheaply by anyone.

No it is not, it is not just common white fish and shrimp you buy off the shelf in it. i have seen Rod making it before he offered it for sale commercially and I am sure there is even more stuff in it now. If you want everything he has in there it will cost a fortune. Not to mention most of the stuff you buy will go to waste unless you have allot of fish. The oyster eggs alone will cost you almost as much as the food itself.

Honestly you could most likely make any food but it is not cost affective for most people.

My advice was aimed towards the individual who couldn't afford to pay the 20 cost of this food plus the 20$ shipping and boxing charge.

Being that he lives in NJ he can acquire Astaxanthin Powder very cheaply from Jehmco, which is based in NJ. Then he can make up his "own" mash from any ingredients he might already have or can afford.

for me i just cant justify making my own foood a guy in my reef club has made some "kevins food"... had to charge 20 a pack because the ingredients are so expensive.

I also had someone local try to duplicate the Rod Food before Rod started settingup other dealers! It wasn't even close and the tank inhabitants didn't like it near as much! :)

For me and my reef, we'll stick with Rod's Food!

Maybe my cleaner shrimp will finally get some revenge for all of the baby shrimp the clowns have eaten.

As for the frozen food, heard lots of great things about it. The s/h/i & boxing charges is what discourages me. Even when Drs Foster & Smith has a great sale on frozen foods, the s/h/i & boxing charges are a killer.

Since it looks like Rod's site hasn't been updated in a while, by reading this thread it seems his fish are still 50$ each. How much is his shipping? Also, does anyone know when he will have some available next? Thanks...

so true so true...

I think a lot of people think you can just buy up all the ingredients and throw it in a blender and feed that slop to your tank.

I have seen the work and patience needed to create rod's food....

Guys... if the shipping is to expensive for you for rods food then get a group order together with your local club, or ask a good local LFS to carry it & give them Rods phone number.
This will greatly cut down on the price of shipping!

My fish flip me the fin when I throw some other food in there now... Its well worth buying!

I have not noticed any difference on my coral growth with feeding this food... the stuff probably does not have enough time to melt & release the phyto & oyster eggs before the fish gobble it up.

My fish spit out other food also. As soon as I put the food in the tank they act like its drugs. I dont think Rod puts phyto he said that the algae cells dont freeze well. But I know he puts Oyster Eggs. My LPS tentacle stretch out for this stuff.

well i talked to rod today and looks like were all out of luck untill the fall, his batch is barely getting ready, to small to sell, so well be out of luck for a couple more month's but will be worth the wait,,

Is it really true? Did Rod stop breading these? I read it somewhere. I dont believe it.

Not true at all. He did take a little break as he got busy with his food, but he's back at it now and has some small fry growing!
