Rod's Onyx

HI everyone and Happy New Year!

I was just wondering if anyone has Rods Onyx's hosting a carpet?
I skimmed through all the pics and noticed most are with BTA's
Sorry if I missed someones pic
I absolutely love the ways Rods clowns look and eventually want to get 2 but I really want a carpet to be their host
Thanks everyone Oh BTW - they will be in a 150gal in the making

Rod houses his pair in a gigantea carpet and i had mine in a haddoni for a while, they like carpets.

i think i got my pair back in october and today i noticed that both the "male" and "female" are getting darker. i havent really seen them much since they like to hide in a small bta. shes also starting to get a black outline on her fins with orange surrounded by the black and shes getting black around her third white stripe thats coming in. shes pretty fat and bigger than the other

the male's colors are coming in really slow though..he doesnt have a third white stripe like the female yet and the black is only on his body but spreading slowly. any idea why? is it because the bigger one is taking most of the food?

I've got a call into Rod's, left a message.. I might be a new member to the club by the end of the week, unless he's sold out or only has the $75 versions.

Well I went cheap, ordered some older clowns that don't have a lot of black on them but have the possibility of darkening up over the years. I was in a toss up between these and regular percs which I could have gotten for $13 each, so I'll take the chance that they may or may not... anyways, they ship on Monday and will be here Tuesday by 10:30! excited.

dzeadow: Cool. How much did you pay each? Rod was telling me about them, but I'm currently low on cash, and shipping is gonna kill me when I order these. Also, POST PICS!!! when you get them.

I'm not sure yet what the exact price is but he said they'd be between $25-35, and I'm sure shipping will be in the $50 range. I'll definitely post pics when they get here. I'll feel a little better about the shipping process too because they're a little bigger.. I always feel like the little guys are more susceptible to shipping stress.

I should have some on Tuesday, but that's obviously too long, someone here has to have some updated pics of their Rod's!

Well, I talked to Rod last week about getting some clowns. After speaking with him I decided to go w/ some $25-35 clowns that weren't of full color that others their same age were. Since I was tossing up the option of getting onyx or solomon island percs with a chance that the solomon's would gain a lot of black as well, getting a cheaper pair of Rod's seemed like a fun option to try. Anyways, sorry for the crappy quality photos, but here's my new Rod's Onyx (maybe not so onyx for now, but they've got a shot!):

First few are during acclimation, one of the pics has a purple cap from a 1g water jug. I don't think people realize how small these guys are! So dang cute.

This last one is a pic of a bunch of gutter guard I used to "seal" off the top of the tank. These guys aren't cheap, better keep 'em in the water!

As a side note, UPS delivered these way late in the day, like 3pm. They were basically dead looking when in their packed bag. After opening the bag and acclimating them, they came slowly back to lively hood. So just be careful not to quickly come to the conclusion that they're dead or dying, give them a chance to acclimate!

i should also note that it's cold as heck here in Montana right now, that's why I stated the time and to still acclimate. I'm sure if these were delivered mid day somewhere warm there wouldn't be any misconceptions of life or death.
