Roger, Need help with Custom Wave Box Project

Hi Roger. I have been using two 6025 nano stream pumps in ...da Artsy Cube. You may recall a while back I contacted you about running these on a simple on/off wavemaker box. They do not perform well with this configuration, and often spin the propeller backwards.

So, I just discovered the 6206 Nano Wave Box and began schemeing again.

I would like to create waves in this 16 gallon nano tank, but without using the Nano Box.

Would it be possible to use the 6206.200 pump and 6091 controller in my sump area as the Nano Box?

Looking at the parts list, the 6206.200 pump does not look like it has a housing. This may be a problem because I need to set the pump into the glass wall just like the 6025 pumps.

I noticed that the Nano Box uses the same 6025.200 Protective Grating as the 6025 pumps, so if it does have the housing, then the fit would be perfect. Yes?

As another potential option, could I use the 6055 Nano Stream (has the housing that fits the bulkhead hole) pump with the Wave Controller 6091.000? Or would the 6055 and the 7091.000 Single Controller be able to perform the job?

I have attached . . . da Artsy Cube photos for visualization of the tank and sump dynamics.

The result from your DIY wavebox will not justify the cost and effort. Just my .02 cents... Plus, your water level is a little high

Cost is not a concern, but function and effort is. You may be right in the sense that more problems will result from just trying to make this concept work.

The top intake hole may be exposed during wave actions, thus creating an annoying slurp.

The pump may be too powerful and if it cannot be tuned down, then the waves may overshoot the tank walls.

I use an autofill device in the sump section. Water oscillations in teh sump may cause the autofill system to switch on inadverently, thus resulting in too much water that will get pushed over the tank walls when the pump cycles back on.

Many many problems too consider. Roger, any thought to this???

I connected a Koralia 3 to a simple on/off wavemaker for about a 15 second cycle. The result is excellent!!!

I get about a 3/4" wave in the tank. So, I was able to somewhat simulate what the Nano Wavebox does. The problem now is the on/off noise.

I had no issue withthe ATO after setting the float switch to a lower and proper height.

I placed the pump in the lower left side hole.

So this is what I am thinking. I can buy the 6055 pump and the 7091 controller. Pump fits the hole and the controller will cycle on/off with varied intensity of flow.

Can I use the 6091 Wave controller with the 6055 pump? Will it produce a better wave action?

What is the difference between the 6091 and 7091 controllers? From what I can determine, the 6091 can produce on/off cycles at certain frequencies to optimize performance. Does it do it by offering a shorter on/off time or is there something more than that?

If I ue the 7091 controller, what is the shortest pulse time available? Does the 7095 offer shorter pulse times? What about the new 7096 controller, does it offer shorter pulse times? Is it available yet?

Cheers

The 6206.20 is just a 6055 modded to fit in the Nano Wavebox. The 7096 and 6091 are the only options that could produce an actual wave. If you just want a pulse you could use the 7091 or 7096. Creating a wave in such a small tank requires a on and off in the order of .3 seconds or so to get the resonance frequency. What you are seeing is more of a surge and not a true repeating wave. If that is what you are looking for the 7091 or 7095 will work. &096 will be able to do both types of flow. The 7091 never turns the pump off, it just pulses between two speeds. 6091 is off and on every 0.3-1.5 seconds., 7095 can either pulse between 2 speeds or cycle on and off every 1 second to 12hrs. 7096 can do all of the above.

Awesome. That is very helpful. Is the 7096 available yet?

If not I will likely go with the 6091. Is this a part I have to buy direct from you? I do not see this controller sold at PA or MD.
Cheers,
Scott

BTW, I would really like to be one of the very first users of that 7096 controller. I will do a full user report on the device like some of my other reviews.

Cheers,
Scott

7096 should be available in March, you would need to place an order with one of our dealers but it is not available yet. 6091 can be ordered on the tunze.com site or from one of our dealers.
