New aquascape!!

New aquascape!!

Yup!!

Finally I am close to 100% happy with my aquascaping.
Did finish this weekend with my rebuild of the right side, and I must say it took quite some time. Actually much more than expected:)

But like I said I am very happy with how it turned out.
It was a little bit heavy on the corals and fishes, but everything went fine exept with my Setosa. Half of it died quite fast, and now It looks like I managed to save half of it.... finger crossed.

Well, here is the last FTS before the change on the right side.

And here is the new FTS, still cloudy water, and corals not so happy.

But already some days after this pic, corals look better, and they now have really good PE.
The right side has now much more space for sps, and is now quite full of frags, I hope it will look wild when this has some months with growth on it.

Yesterday I did pick up some really nice frags from a fellow reefer. Acropora Pearlberry, Acropora Tenuis, and Acropora Toutosa. Really looking forward to placing them on the new side where I have saved some space for them;)

Pictures will come in the future.

Happy reefing!

Wow! looks amazing. This is definitely one of my favorite tanks. Well done!

Thank you:)

Looking good Roger :D

Thanks Jostein, but I still have a long way to go before my sps collection is even close to yours:)

I think it looks better, and more room for SPS is always a good thing ;)

Leonardo

Thanks Leonardo... Yes, thats my plan, more room for sps... but strangely I`m allready running out of space;)

Good job roger!
It looks nice!

In which mode do you work your vortech's?

Thanks:)
Well I usually run my Vortechs in Lagoon mode, but sometimes I switch it up with some reef crest mode. And I run the pumps antisync.

New sps atoll

Hmm, last weekend I redid my aquascape for creating more room for sps corals... I must have done something wrong because it is now already filled with frags and some of my old corals;)

Now I tell my sps to start growing, hehe:)

Hello Roger,
Thanks a lot for the kind words on my thread.
Your reef looks beautiful.
I read through your thread and great job on the planning.
Corals are growing out nicely and you are keeping the tank clean. Great job.

Could you share how you are doing balling currently.
What materials you are using? And quantities added?
Sorry for asking so many questions.
I'm using Tropic Marin salts for balling. I'm new to that and still getting the hang of it.

Thanks again!

Hi Reef_noob:)

Thanks for your kind words aswell:)
I really like the way you have solved the technical area in your system, it gave me some great ideas for future projects.

Yes, I think i have good growth, and it really took off once I started with balling+. I purchase this from my lfs, and the only thing I need to do is to prepare some RO-water, and just put in the following bags of the mix into the selected containers. No need to measure and weigh, it is allready prepared from my lfs. Saves time, and is super easy:)

In April 2013 I started dosing 20ml of each supplement(Ca, Mg and Kh) spread out over twelve dosings pr.day. 240ml in total. I always dose the same from each container. I then measured once or twice a week to fine tune the dosing, and now I dose 300ml pr. day. also spread out over 12 dosings.

Soon I must up in 320 I think, because now I have much more sps than before. And I am thinking of adding a kalkwassermixer and reactor in the future. Here in Norway the Balling+ is not so cheap, and in the long run a kalkwasser and mixer will be much more cost effective. I might also try to purchase some Balling from Germany, but then you have to measure out everything yourself and time is a problem already;)

So as you see I havent used Balling+ so long, but I have now experienced great growth and color on my corals.
I think the main reason is not all to keeping water parameters on spot, but to be able to keep them more stable over a long time. I think when your parameters is running up and down that is not so healthy for the tank. And if some parameters are of, I don`t run to the lfs and buy some "waterwonder2000" and start dosing something new to desperatly get the correct water parameters where they should be. I try to address the problem, and use time to slowly get the values back in a normal way. This method has worked well for me, and I now have a system with really low maintenece and I only change about 50L of water once a month.

Hope this covers your answer, and just keep asking:)
By the way I see many aking about the DJ power station, where did you buy it?

Hi Roger,
Thanks a lot for the explanation. And your advice is spot on.
I'm new to balling and I've liked it so far. But as everything it has a learning curve...so I'm still a student.
The box I had got from a local electric shop I think it's oem and not hav any labels. I did mention it in one of my posts.
Thanks again for the patient explanation.

You are welcome:)
I`m still fresh in the hobby myself, so this is a learning curve for me aswell:)

Ok, I have searched the web for these, and I am now thinking about redoing my electrical area in the cabinet:)

Some new pictures:)

Some new pictures:)

Not much has changed, but I have broken up some of the zoas and are now selling them to fellow reefers. Will keep some of them and place the together on a rock island, separated from the rest of the rocks.

Happy reefing!! :)
