Love them clownfish.
i took some pictures yesterday of my aquarium and its main focal points, the anemones and clownfish.

the purple base magnifica i have had for over 10 years, maybe even closer to 15. which in retrospect seems like a ridiculous amount of time to keep an anemone considering all of the changes ive gone through since i purchased it in college and where i am now.

there are two more magnificas in the tank, one of which is out of sight but i think needs to be more up front. while it has a rusty red base, its tentacles are electric green with pink tips. it just would rather get blasted by my MP40 than be out in the open.

an interesting thing of note, the pair of chrysogasters had the purple base anemone to call home for a very long time, and yet would never go in it. my female would sleep beside it on the rocks at night, but during the day would go nowhere near it. then i added this little pinkish based magnifica, and both male and female IMMEDIATELY responded positively to it. they both sleep INSIDE it at night. why was this? same species of anemone. my guess is the anemones are from different geographic locations. perhaps the purple base one is from an indo pacific region, and the pinkish base is from an african collection site.

Well this was a pleasant surprise! Looks great man. How's the aggression of your female baster towards the male? Also no purple crispa pics!!! Shame

Looks great and jealous you've had that mag for so long, way to go!
Sometimes I think about not having much sps and having more nems, I just wonder if that increases chances of spawning and water clarity issues, do yours spawn?

Also how long have you had that pipefish, and how does it do w/ others that are food competition?

thanks colt! i posted an updated pic in the malu vs crispa thread. ill get some more up here soon. when i introduced the male to this female, he was literally 3/4". i thought for sure she was going to obliterate him. somehow he survived by hiding in corals and rock cracks. to be honest im not sure why this one has lived when so many in the past have been chewed up and spit out. this is definitely a difficult species to pair.

ive never had a magnifica spawn. i had a crispa spawn once, but that too was after having it for almost 10 years. id love to be one of the lucky ones that have a magnifica that splits asexually.

i love a nice SPS tank, and wish i had more. ive just been going at it with frags instead of colonies (see my thread HERE for why) but i certainly wouldnt mind a few more magnifica. however, i believe magnificas can be aggressive to one another and fear more would just negatively affect the ones i already have.

i have a pair of janss pipefish in the aquarium, and i love them! theyre secretive for sure, always together hiding in the back of the rockwork until evening time. then they get out and explore when my tank is full actinic. theyve been in there now almost three months. i have two ORA dottybacks: elongate and orchid that i would see as the biggest competition for the pipefish, but so far they seem to be getting enough to eat. they are gorgeous!

Gorgeous tank! I'm always looking for a purple base anemone with green and colored tips like you have. Very impressive!

Not missing anything. It's the last gasp from Photobucket before they claim bankruptcy and disappear.

so many pictures on this forum are going to be lost. so sad.

where are people hosting their images at now?
