Rookie mistake-sump space too small

WAY overbuilt is an understatement :p

Buy a sheet of 3/4" ply as stated by Alton and rebuild stand to fit a 40b under your 40b and be very happy with that setup..

Now this is an idea I could get behind....

Out of curiosity...would that think of plywood really support the weight? I see the pre made stands at the store and I always fear how flimsy they appear.

Take out the 4x4"s and use 2x4"s you'll have a easy fix you can do it with the tank on it one by one just support each corner as you do it. Each corner on the 40g has lil over 100lbs on it.

See I don't think that's quite feasible. I'd have to cut them out.

3/4" ply stands alone can ABSOLUTELY support the weight..

My 80g is on a 3/4" ply stand.. and its solid as a rock..
see here before I put doors/slide out side cabinets in it..

Its really only 3/4" ply on the left and right sides with 1x material holding those vertical basically.. All the weight is just on those 2 plywood pieces and its plenty strong as is..

Those premade stands while not the best and typically build from MDF and not plywood are still enough to hold the tank up.. Their joinery methods are typically not the best though using those cam lock connections,etc... to make assembly easy..

Proper joints and 3/4" ply is all anyone needs for 95% of the tanks on this site.. Including many in the multiple-hundred gallon sizes..
A 40g is a walk in the park for a plywood box..
