Rose Anemone Looks Sick

I have had this Anemone for about a year, the parameters have stayed relatively constant other than my known algae problem. Over time about 5 months it turned to a darker brownish and somewhat stringy arms but stayed the same other then this past week. I feed weekly half silverside as I have done since the beginning and it always eats.

I do have a ph at 8.0 and have even stopped vodka dosing to try and raise it a bit but then algae started to creep in again. I know I need to add to my filtration system as I am only running a Remora Pro mag3 hang on in my 72gal tank, but not sure on a new job overseas as of now so everything is on hold. I just want to get this Rose healthy again any recommendations.

Parameters are zeroed out, 1.022 on monthly water changes, 8.0 ph, dose weekly with Reef Fusion 1 and 2. Dose daily with Vodka which has done wonders. Not sure if I am missing anything

Latey even my host clown has been in his other spot.

Any ideas welcomed.

hey tazman,
check out this website http://www.karensroseanemones.net/ . It has alot of info and it has helped me out alot. And I've heard the same as gemmy, that silversides could hurt them as they can't digest the bones. Also has your salinity always been 1.022, it seems a little on the low side? hope this helps good luck.

I would agree with a higher salinity, and based on your description, probably more white light. Either add 10-14k fixtures, or switch out the current bulbs with 14k and (if you want) add actinics. JMO, but it sounds like it wants more/brighter white lighting.

If you have an algae problem, it could mean that you params are out of wack, and your test kits aren't picking it up. For example, you may have excess phosphate which the algae is taking in, so the test kit wont register it.

However, my experience with BTAs lead me to think it's something else. What are your calcium levels like? I personally think CA levels that are too high affects anemones, particularly their nematocysts, which could me causing the curling. Check your CA readings, and report back to us. i would shoot for about 400, anything higher and you're basically just wasting your money on dosing too much two-part.

I'm not sure it needs more lighting. BTAs tend to bleach when the don't get enough light. In your case it's getting darker, which is a good thing, and usually means its got a good zooxanthellae population. As a matter of fact, it could be getting enough energy (sugars) from the zooxanthellae so you probably don't even have to feed it.
