Rotifer water color

Just put in my Reed Starter kit last night. How fast should the color change colors for Rotifer Diet consumption.

Last night I put some Rotifer Diet in the bucket, green tint. This morning green tint is about the same. This afternoon tint still looks the same with some debree on the bottom.

Any reason why Rotifers don't seem to be depleting the Rotifer Diet I added into the bucket?

Just trying to gauge the status/health of my rotifers.

Water 75 degrees, salanity 1.018, and slight bubble

You might have a low count of rotifers. Don't add any more algae untill the water gets lighter in color.

I agree, don't add any more rotifer diet until the water clears some. You may have had some losses from startup. If any rotifers are alive, they should clear the water soon.

That's a lot of volume for a small starter bag of rots. Just give them time to reproduce.

He got 1 million rotifers so his initial density is higher then most hobbyists upper limits of density.

1,000,000 rotifers to 14 liters or so culture water.

I do agree though, don't keep feeding if it's not disappearing. make sure to keep up on the water quality.

my bad - i thought the starter kit was 600k. Still - rather than having a single 5g bucket - you should consider splitting the culture into two buckets at maybe half the volume (2.5g).

Well you're kinda right. The website clearly states 600k *but* we just upped the density of our base rotifer cultures. We also lowered the price on just 1m rotifers. I'll fix the rest of the site tomorrow :D

I have two 2g buckets with some of the culture from my split tonight. Density seems to be good in original host 5g bucket when checking a vial.
