Rouge Mille

Hello fellow reefers,
Just bought a small frag about 3/4". Labelled as above. But looks like a regular pink mille.
Can someone please post a pic of one? Need to know how they should look.

I thinks that's part of the problem.....there aren't a lot of pics of mature colonies that look similar. I bought my frag from a reefer in Florida and it was a brown turd when I bought it.

Most of the time the polyps are white...............I've never seen green/yellow.
I think that Atlantis frag pic is photo geeked way off.

My lighting is geared toward making reds pop, so it's more dominant than some people that have different lighting. Halides will probably make it more pinkish and higher par will make the polyps more white than red/pink. If you look closely at Tyree's picture you can see the polyps tips are white and then as you look deeper into the polyp it's red/pink.

My coral has these distinct characteristics that are the same as the tyree's rouge----
-Rouge pink/red color of the body
- Green growth edge at the base
-White polyps

I've only distributed a couple frags of mine as I don't like to cut it, so I don't know how it looks in a lot of other tanks.

I bought a frag from Jason Fox about 3 weeks ago so I'm going to see how it develops compared to my other colony.

Quite frankly when corals have been around for a decade like this one, no one knows for sure what they have unless they got it out of the original sources tank in person.

It's from Atlantis. However, I will try to snap a pic at their location when I get a chance. They only allow walk ins in Saturday's.

Just noticed you have another recently active thread regarding AEFW... Millepora's are magnets for AEFW. Keep an eye on this bugger, especially the lower side and in between branches. If you see something suspicious give it a blast or two with a turkey baster or small utility pump, just dont overdo it. Only dip if you have to. GL! IME, most milles start of terribly slow with poor PE... then hit a point at which they take off and become beautifully colored and extended.

Thats a VERY large frag...So does the person you got it from have a LARGE colony of Rouge Millepora..?

The ONLY thing that will make your coral to be a TRUE Rouge Millepora is if it has lineage. Ask the person you bought it from about its lineage...who did they buy from?

If they got a mariculture colony and cut it up; it will never be a Rouge Millepora...it will be a coral that has same colour and structure etc.

Its a nice coral regardless. If you can get it to turn pink all over then that would be awesome.

I recently picked up some brown Millepora frags from a buddy that was thinning out his SPS collection. One of them is turning into at least 3-4 colours in my tank. Another now looks VERY similar to the coral posted by Ed.

I'd be happy with the large frag you got. As long as you colour it up, it will look great.

I think too many people in the these days are into collecting high end/named corals...whilst thats not a bad thing (ie getting hold of cultured stuff is a very good thing) but maybe we get a little carried away. Lately, I have severely cut down coral purchases...its more about growing and really colouring up the stuff I have.

A tank full of large colonies of colourful corals is always going to look better and be more impressive than a tank with tiny frags of high end latest $800 1/2inch Acros. Maybe I'm just getting old :lolspin:

Funny you touch on this topic. I have considered dropping 400 bills on a frag pack of 8 high end pieces but very reluctant to do so. I am not a very patient person! I cant stand waiting for at least a year for some growth on a little stick!
