Roughtongue Bass

We had one once many years ago, I was kind of underwhelmed by it. As juveniles, they are basically a pale dirty pink. They are shy as well, and prone to flukes as most of the group are. We got ours at a "fire sale price" when it was collected for shipment to Japan, and then they decided that their customer didn't want to pay that many yen for what looks like a sick squampinnis anthias. I can't remember exactly how much we paid for it, but I think it was around $400 - a third the price of a larger one.

For the price, might as well get one of these. ;)

I've collected them once in the past, they are found at or below 300 ft and from what I've been told ( I usually don't try to collect fish below 200 ft normally because I can't get them to the surface without pinning them and I don't think that is healthy for the fish) they are not common until below 350-375 ft. the ones we collected, there were 3 and one red barbier, we sold them for 500 each and they went streight to Japan.

Curacao Deepwater Roughtongue Anthias (Trio)

We had one in our country and it went to a rare fish enthusiast.. the color was quite drab for a young one.. but not sure if it is still around.

If I'm going to go through the trouble of keeping a low temp tank, I'd rather have some Anthias anthias.

There are a lot of nice looking rare anthias. One thing I find cool about these is that they are from the Caribbean and the price isn't as bad as it would be for a trio of a Pacific equivalent (and by equivalent I mean collection depth).
